Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin says the team is doing its "due diligence" ahead of choosing the franchise's next quarterback, with NFL veteran Aaron Rodgers still in the picture.

The latest update comes after it emerged that Rodgers has already held a "planned throwing session" with new Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf, that "went very well", according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport speaking on 'The Pat McAfee Show'.

Metcalf joined the Steelers from the Seahawks in a trade this offseason and could potentially be joined by Rodgers.

Rodgers, 41, became a free agent at the end of the 2024 season after parting ways with the New York Jets following two unsuccessful campaigns and a 2023 Achilles tear.

The four-time NFL MVP stated he would like to continue playing but didn't rule out retirement .

At the start of free agency, the Steelers , Minnesota Vikings, and the New York Giants were three teams rumored to be interested in Rodgers .

However, the Giants have since padded out their quarterback room with veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, and the Vikings are keen to give J.J.

McCarthy a fair shot following the departures of Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones, and Nick Mullens.

The Vikings aren't completely out on Rodgers, but they're prepared to wait, leaving the Steelers, who lost both Wilson and Justin Fields in free agency.

However, head coach Tomlin has confirmed that the Steelers won't make a panic decision on Rodgers or any other quarterback.

"We're still evaluating the acquisition of a guy at the position," Tomlin said.

"Whether that's in free agency and/or the draft, so we're doing our due diligence." Tomlin did address Rodgers' visit to the Steelers' facility this offseason, which lasted six to seven hours.

"It's been reported that he spent a day with us, and it was a really good day," Tomlin confirmed.

Tomlin also said there is no timeline for the future NFL Hall of Famer to settle on a decision, with the 2025 campaign not set to start until Sept.

"Not to my knowledge," Tomlin said.

"I don't know that we've approached it from a deadline perspective.

Certainly, as I mentioned, you'd like to have settled circumstances.

But deadlines don't often bring that to a head." Tomlin says he'd like to get to know Rodgers better.

The pair spent a great deal of time talking about "things that he values as a player and a man and what he might be looking for with his next stop." Tomlin added: "I really just wanted to spend more time just getting to know him better." If Rodgers decides not to play another season in the NFL, attention will turn toward the quarterback's next career move.

There's little to no doubt among NFL TV execs that Rodgers would make a good analyst.

However, there are huge doubts over how his personality could be received by viewers, with one branding him "insufferable," according to Front Office Sports ..
