FARGO It's becoming an annual rite to see the top talent in Summit League men's basketball enter their names in the NCAA transfer portal.

The last two springs have seen numerous all-conference players seeking Power 4 programs for which to play and the juicy NIL money that comes with it.

This year saw another exodus of top talent via the portal.

Summit League player of the year Marquel Sutton of Omaha announced his intention to enter the portral, as did star teammate J.J.

White.

Jacari White of North Dakota State, Chase Forte of South Dakota, Oscar Cluff of South Dakota State, Treysen Eaglestaff of North Dakota.

All top players in the Summit, all in the portal.

Eaglestaff announced his commitment to South Carolina this weekend.

Interestingly, Summit League freshman of the year Sebastian Akins of Denver apparently has not yet shown up in the portal even though he announced his intention to enter about two weeks ago.

Not so much this season for the Division II Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

As of Friday, March 28, only one player from the NSIC men's basketball all-conference team with eligibility remaining had entered the portal.

There's still time.

The spring basketball portal window opened Monday, March 24 and will close on Tuesday, April 22.

Conference defensive player of the year and first-team all-conference selection Creighton Morisch of the University of Sioux Falls had his name in the portal.

The 6-foot-10 center has already verbally committed to Division I Austin Peay of the mid-major Atlantic Sun Conference.

Like many top lower-level transfers these days, Morisch was a senior this season but played two years at a junior college (Iowa Lakes Community College in his case) and so he'll use his extra year granted by the NCAA to play at a higher level.

Sutton, J.J.

White, Jacari White, Cluff and Forte are in the same boat in the Summit League.

On the women's side of the NSIC, only two all-conference players are in the portal so far.

First-team forward/center Madelyn Bragg of Northern State and second team guard Hannah Berg of Augustana will try to find new programs for next season.

Berg played at Iowa Western Community College prior to Augustana.

Bragg is an interesting player and could wind up in the Summit League.

She's 6-foot-2 and went to Aberdeen Roncalli High School.

She averaged 16.8 points and 7.2 rebounds and would be a helpful addition for most Midwest schools in the Summit.

The Summit League women's programs saw their fair share of top players enter the portal, too.

Most notable was Jackrabbits star Haleigh Timmer .

The redshirt junior put her name in the portal after an honorable mention all-conference season.

The 5-11 guard from Rapid City is the first top-line SDSU women's player to enter the portal.

Longtime coach Aaron Johnston has done a terrific job of retaining players in Brookings.

Timmer was a second-team all-Summit performer her sophomore season and missed all of 2023-24 with a major knee injury.

She returned this season and helped the Jackrabbits to another unbeaten conference championship and berth in the NCAA tournament.

UND was the headliner in losing top players as freshman of the year Jocelyn Schiller, second-team all-conference player Kiera Pemberton and all-defensive team member Fatima Ibrahim all portaled.

Others who received some kind of conference honor and went in the portal include Alanya Contreras of Kansas City, Harriet Ford of Omaha and Ana Oliveria of UMKC.

Following is the list of players entered in the portal as of Friday afternoon.

Some players might have announced their intent to enter but their name has not yet officially showed up in the portal.

There is often an administrative lag time between when an athlete submits the paperwork to his or her school and the athlete's name officially shows up in the NCAA's computers.

Similarly, some players might have announced their intention to transfer to a specific school but as of Friday all players listed below are still classified as "active" in the portal meaning they have not yet officially enrolled at another school.
