If the bookmakers are to be believed, it is more likely than not that Alex Ovechkin will break Wayne Gretzkys NHL goal-scoring record against the Islanders.

Ovechkin scored twice against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night to tie Gretzkys mark of 894 career goals, meaning he needs just one against the Isles on Sunday to become the NHLs all-time leader.

FanDuel Sportsbook currently has Ovechkin listed at -115 to score the historic goal against the Isles on Sunday.

When you convert those odds to implied probability, you get 53.5 percent.

But dont be surprised if that number continues to tick up.

Ticket prices at UBS Arena have skyrocketed in anticipation, and you can bet that business behind the betting window will pick up as punters want a piece of the record-setting action.

That will mean plenty of money will show up on Ovechkin to score, and we could see his odds continue to shorten as we get closer to puck drop on Sunday.

Betting on the NHL? Usually, players in these kinds of situations feel the pressure, and their production starts to slow down, but the opposite seems to have happened with Ovechkin.

The Russian powerhouse is on a four-game goalscoring streak and has six tallies in his last six games played.

Ovechkin, 39, has 41 goals this season and is the second-oldest player in NHL history (behind Gordie Howe) to hit the 40-goal mark in a single campaign.

If you dont think Ovechkin will light the lamp against the Isles on Sunday, you can also bet on the goal coming against one of the other remaining opponents on Washingtons schedule.

Opponent for Ovechkins 895th goal Washington doesnt play again until Thursday when it hosts Carolina.

The Caps then play a home-and-home against Columbus on Saturday and Sunday, before heading back to Long Island on Tuesday, April 15.

The Caps conclude the regular season in Pittsburgh two days later.
