The Chicago White Sox were crushed 72 once again at the hands of the Detroit Tigers.

The Tigers five-run victory clinched the three-game series and handed the South Siders their fourth consecutive loss.

Next up on the mound to stop the bleeding: veteran lefty Martin Perez.

After a stellar debut agains t Minnesota, Perez gets the ball with hopes of ending this early-season skid.

Hell square off against rookie Jackson Jobe, Detroits top-rated pitching prospectand one of baseball's best young talents .

Perez the Stopper? Unlike Davis Martins six shutout innings in his season debut, Perezs underlying metrics tell a much better story than the box score alone.

In his first outing, the 34-year-old tossed six scoreless innings against the Twins, leading the Sox to a 90 series-opening win.

His expected BA checked in at .121 , and his expected ERA sat at a slick 2.02.

Now, while none of this is exactly encouraging for the future of the White Soxconsidering Perez is a longtime big league journeymanhis poise and command might be just what they need to stop the sweep.

Jobe Gets Another Shot On the other side, 22-year-old Jackson Jobe had a rough go in his MLB debut against the Seattle Mariners.

The Tigers still pulled out a 96 win, but Jobe didnt factor into the decision.

He went four innings, gave up three runs, and allowed solo homers to Luke Raley and Randy Arozarena.

The peripherals from Jobes first start werent anything special, but the raw talent is clearly there.

As he begins his big-league development, the White Soxdeep in their own developmental eramight be the perfect opponent for him to gain some footing.

Or maybe, just maybe, the White Sox take advantage of that inexperience.

Maybe.

Tigers Staying Hot, Carpenter on Fire Perez has seen plenty of Detroits veteran hitters over his 13 seasons and has fared well against them.

But his most important assignment today will be someone he hasnt seen at allKerry Carpenter.

Carpenter has absolutely torched the Sox this series, mashing three home runs in the first two games.

Tigers hitters were aggressive early in the count against Davis Martin yesterday, and it worked.

Lets see if the crafty vet Perez has some tricks up his sleeve to keep them guessing.

Meanwhile, the White Sox offense could only scrape together two one-run rallies and, of course, found three ways to waste opportunities to really top off their performance.

Not for nothing, Korey Lee had three hits and a run.

Bullpen Bright Spot? If there are any silver linings in a series where youve been outscored 146, the White Sox bullpen hasnt collapsed.

South Side relievers have allowed just one earned runa solo shot to Riley Greeneover six innings of low-leverage work.

Thats...something? Avoiding Deja Vu We saw way too many lengthy losing streaks and sweeps during the 2024 abomination of a season.

Hopefully, the 2025 version of the White Sox can put out the fire before it turns into yet another streak.

First pitch is at 12:40 PM Central Time and will air on CHSN.

Lets try not to get swept, yeah? This article first appeared on On Tap Sports Net and was syndicated with permission..
