OU football TE Davon Mitchell to enter transfer portal, per report

NORMAN Oklahoma tight end Davon Mitchell plans to enter the transfer portal, On3 reported on Friday.
Mitchell didnt play a snap last season for the Sooners after signing as a highly-touted recruit.
Mitchell was a five-star and the No.
1 tight end in the 2025 class out of Los Alamitos High School in California before reclassifying to the 2024 class.I know a lot of people got a lot of questions about why I aint been on the field and blaming coach (Brent Venables) and (tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley), Mitchell wrote on X in December.
But all honesty I put myself in the position not to be on the field I was very much inconsistent this year but I trust the Oklahoma staff.
Yall should do the same.Mitchells departure leaves an opening at the tight end position, which consists of former linebacker Jaren Kanak, Kennesaw State transfer Carson Kent, Louisiana Tech transfer John Locke and Pitt States Will Huggins.
OU is expected to be aggressive in its pursuit at tight end in the spring portal. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound tight end will have four years of eligibility remaining.
The Sooners previously beat out Alabama and Miami for the prized prospect.Hes gotten better, OU football coach Brent Venables previously said.
Hes put his head down.
Gone to work, and hes improved learning and knowing what to do.
To me, theres no excuse not to know what to do, and the coach cant want it more than the player wants it for himself.
So, hes really plugged in, put his head down, hes come to work every day.More: Joining OU football is full-circle moment for Marvin Jones Jr.
