Urban Meyer explains ‘typical Deion’ in address of Coach Prime’s spring game idea for Colorado vs Syracuse | Sporting News

Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders didnt get his way with one key spring goal he had for his program.
The Buffs wont be hosting Syracuses Fran Brown and his Orange at Folsom Field for an April 19 exhibition like Coach Prime wanted.
While addressing the no-longer-planned Prime Time event, Urban Meyer said it was typical Deion.
Grandiose and borderline obscene at first.
Until it makes sense.
Typical Deion.
I mean, it makes you sit back and say, What? and then youre like, Man, what a hell of an idea.
I think its a great idea.
Id have to see it.
Id have to learn more about it, Meyer said on The Triple Option podcast with Mark Ingram II and Rob Stone .
Sanders did something college football purists have rarely seen from him with his spring game bid: support for old-school ideas.
The Spring Game will be televised on ESPN2 ...
on the 19th.
We got to sell this thing out and pack this thing because the way the trend is going, you never know if this is going to be the last spring game.
I dont believe in that.
I dont really want to condone that.
I would like to play in the spring.
Actually, I (would) like to play against another team in the spring.
Thats what Im trying to do right now, Sanders said, per On3 .
To have a competitive (game) against your own guys kind of gets monotonous.
You really cant tell the level of your guys because, you know, its the same old, same way.
Everybody kind of know each other.
Towards the end, I would like to style it like the pros.
I would like to practice against someone for a few days, then you have the spring game and I think the public will be satisfied with that tremendously.
I think its a tremendous idea.
Ive told those personnel who should understand that its a tremendous idea.
For as much as Sanders wants to change college football, he at least wants to not only maintain the fan-friendly spring game, but essentially add a highlight-reel matchup for bragging rights with a Power 4 school not already scheduled..
