Athlete Spotlight: Handley cheerleader Ariyana Brown

Handley High School 17-year old senior Sport: Cheerleading.
Position: Base Parents: Constance Williams and Travis Brown Hometown: Winchester What do you love about cheerleading?: Cheer has been a part of me for my whole life.
I can always go to my team or one of my coaches, and cheering lifts me up.
It can make me feel happy when life puts you in those situations where youre struggling.
Most memorable moment in cheerleading: It might be this year [on Sept.
21 at Broadways invitational] when we got third place.
Usually, Handley can have a reputation of not doing the best.
Our main goal is just to build the cheer program and, obviously, athletics, as well.
Most embarrassing moment in cheerleading: Im a base, and one of the most embarrassing and also funny [moments was] when everybody was having fun, and they put me into the air.
Everybody was screaming and stuff.
It was fun.
Most difficult moment in cheerleading: I would say around COVID time.
During COVID I was in seventh grade, eighth grade and throughout ninth grade, so I had to stop cheering for a few years because of that.
I didnt go to school at all.
Three people you can have dinner with, dead or alive: My aunt Rosie.
She passed away in 2017 or 2016.
If I could just talk to her again and have dinner because you would always go to her house and have dinner.

I would bring her to dinner because she would make it fun.
And I would probably bring Beyonce because I love Beyonce.
Biggest athletic influence: The other Black athletes who have done a lot for our community, even at Handley and all around the world.
People in gymnastics, basketball, they give you the insight that you can do it too, and you can do anything.
Favorite teacher: [Handley social studies teacher] Mr.
[Jeffrey] Keller is my favorite teacher because he really helped me.
Even now, being a senior, hes given me a lot of opportunities, especially when I leave school.
Hes really helped me with stuff like that and being one of the big people in Black Student Union.
Favorite athlete: Handley cheer coach [Chyanna] Jones Favorite sports team: Handleys football team Favorite movie: Twitches Favorite TV show: Love Island Favorite song: Doctor, My Eyes by Khamari Favorite food: Pasta Worst thing youve eaten: Sour cream Plans after high school: My plan is definitely to go to college.
I feel like Im just the type of person that would go to college.
I do relatively well in school.
I want to go to a four-year college in-state maybe VCU or UVA and hopefully go into the medical field.
I did an intro to health and medical [class] and just the stuff that we learned through that class made me very interested..
