Berry Tramel's college football predictions: Why OU will win at Auburn

NCAAB News

OU-Auburn and OSU-Kansas State are must-win games on Saturday.

OSU to stay in the Big 12 football race, OU to keep its fan bases sanity.

All produced by last Saturday, which produced a most remarkable twin terror effect.

Both OSU and OU were top-15 teams hosting top-15 teams.

Both got down 22-3.

Both benched their starting quarterbacks at mid-game.

Both staged fourth-quarter rallies that made the final scores respectable, even though no one in either stadium or watching on either network ever had the faintest hope that victory was possible.

Tennessee beat OU 25-15, and Utah beat OSU 22-19.

You could watch a thousand football games and not come across a 25-15 or a 22-19 final score.

And TWO 22-3 deficits in the same state on the same Saturday? A million to one shot.

But I digress.

Time to pick these games, and who knows whats in store after a Twilight Zone Saturday last week? People are also reading...

He explains Bill Haisten: If theres such a thing as a three-point butt-kicking, Utah-OSU was it Oklahoma at Auburn: Sooners 21-10.

The Michael Hawkins era needs to begin with a road victory.

If you think the Sooners have quarterback problems, check out the Tigers, who have thrown eight interceptions (Payton Thorne five in 70 pass attempts, Hank Brown three in 43).

Oklahoma State at Kansas State: Wildcats 27-14.

Possible Big 12 elimination game, considering KSU was blown out at Brigham Young.

Brandon Weeden, Mason Rudolph and Spencer Sanders each won once in Manhattan, but that kind of quarterbacking is gone from Stillwater.

Tulsa at North Texas: Mean Green 34-21.

UNT has a prolific offense, led by former OU backup quarterback Chandler Morris, who has thrown for 1,204 yards and 11 touchdowns in four games.

Georgia at Alabama: Crimson Tide 23-20.

The Bulldogs have been to Tuscaloosa three times in the last 30 years.

The SEC is one funky scheduling conference.

Arkansas vs.

Texas A&M in Arlington: Razorbacks 25-24.

This could be the final scheduled game at AT&T Stadium for these ancient rivals, who have played 12 times in Arlington, starting in 2009.

Kentucky at Ole Miss: Rebels 34-13.

Mark Stoops defense held down Georgia, but Mississippi will be even more of an offensive challenge.

Mississippi State at Texas: Longhorns 54-7.

The Longhorns maiden SEC game matches the Bulldogs playing in a stadium, Royal-Memorial, named for a Hail State coach.

Sooner legend Darrell Royal was head coach at Mississippi State (and Washington) before getting the Longhorn job.

South Alabama at Louisiana State: Tigers 39-14.

OSU knows that the Jaguars are capable of a big upset, but LSU already has flirted with such disaster.

Arizona at Utah: Wildcats 28-27.

Noah Fifita gives Zona the better quarterback, even if Cameron Rising plays.

Colorado at Central Florida: Knights 42-32.

Colorado games are like Mike Gundy press conferences.

Miss them at your own risk.

Shedeur Sanders Hail Mary to get the Buffaloes into overtime against Baylor was a play for the ages.

Brigham Young at Baylor: Cougars 17-15.

Dave Arandas days in Waco are about over.

His Hail Mary defense was a disaster in Boulder.

It literally looked like man-to-man.

Texas Christian at Kansas: Jayhawks 34-24.

Sonny Dykes got ejected during TCUs loss at Southern Methodist.

Does he think this is basketball? Cincinnati at Texas Tech: Red Raiders 44-21.

Tech isnt very good, but the Red Raiders can get to 4-1 with a victory.

Iowa State at Houston: Cyclones 27-9.

What happened last week in Cincinnati, where Houston lost 34-0? Houston went to OU and lost 16-12.

Illinois at Penn State: Nittany Lions 20-19.

Bret Bielema has made the Illini a tough out in the Big Ten, as Nebraska learned last week.

Wisconsin at Southern Cal: Trojans 28-19.

Luke Fickell still looking for his first signature win with the Badgers.

This would qualify.

Ohio State at Michigan State: Buckeyes 31-11.

Sneaky good game.

Jonathan Smith has made Michigan State competitive.

Washington at Rutgers: Scarlet Knights 26-20.

Someone better stop Rutgers UW, Nebraska, Wisconsin, UCLA else the Knights will be 7-0 playing USC.

Maryland at Indiana: Hoosiers 31-21.

Im on the Curt Cignetti bandwagon.

The precocious coach has IU playing well.

Minnesota at Michigan: Wolverines 27-13.

What a win for the Wolverines, over USC.

Michigan ran for 290 yards and made the Trojan defense look like Alex Grinch still was in charge.

Oregon at UCLA: Ducks 53-14.

Big Ten, baby.

Nebraska at Purdue: Cornhuskers 41-14.

Are the Boilermakers the worst team in a Power Four conference? Theyre making the case.

Louisville at Notre Dame: Cardinals 24-13.

Louisville is untested, but the Fighting Irish lost to Northern Illinois and took forever to put away Miami-Ohio.

Virginia Tech at Miami: Hurricanes 34-14.

VPI has lost to both Vanderbilt and Rutgers, which makes this season more historically significant than anything positive the Hokies could do.

Florida State at Southern Methodist: Mustangs 19-17.

We thought this might be an Atlantic Coast Conference showdown.

Now its a conference elimination game for the Seminoles.

Northern Illinois at North Carolina State: Wolfpack 28-18.

UNC coach Mack Brown was embarrassed by the Tar Heels 70-50 loss to James Madison that included 53 first-half points by the Dukes and 487 total yards by JMU quarterback Alonza Barnett III.

This might be it for Browns glorious career.

Stanford at Clemson: Tigers 31-20.

Clemson seems to be improving fast, but beware the Cardinal, which won at Syracuse and has a keeper in coach Troy Taylor.

Western Kentucky at Boston College: Eagles 35-13.

Who saw BC getting off to a 4-1 start, which the Eagles will with a win over the Hilltoppers.

Louisiana at Wake Forest: Ragin Cajuns 24-22.

Louisiana played Tulane tough.

Holy Cross at Syracuse: Orange 55-10.

I figure the four coolest-named colleges are Old Dominion, Puget Sound, Pepperdine and Holy Cross.

Washington State at Boise State: Broncos 27-23.

Future Pac-12 mates; Cougars might go unbeaten if they win this game.

South Florida at Tulane: Green Wave 33-30.

USF played Alabama tough for about 55 minutes, Miami for about 44.

Army at Temple: Black Knights 24-13.

This is your Thursday night game.

Ill try to watch, because its Army.

Navy at Alabama-Birmingham: Midshipmen 21-20.

The only unbeatens in the American Athletic Conference are Army and Navy.

Each is 2-0 in conference, and no other AAC member has won a league game.

Sign me up for an Army-Navy AAC title game.

Middle Tennessee at Memphis: Tigers 33-14.

Middle is off to a 1-3 start under new coach Derek Mason, the former OSU defensive coordinator.

Texas-San Antonio at East Carolina: Pirates 31-24.

Only four of the AACs 14 teams have a winning record, but the winner joins the club.

Both teams are 2-2.

Staten Island goes to Boca Raton.

What a country.

Fresno State at Nevada-Las Vegas: Rebels 31-28.

One of the biggest games of the day in college football.

A Mountain West showdown; UNLV is one of six remaining unbeaten mid-majors, while 3-1 Fresno State has lost only at Michigan, in a tight game.

San Diego State at Central Michigan: Chippewas 24-17.

Aztec coach Sean Lewis is an offensive guru, but San Diego State cant seem to score.

New Mexico at New Mexico State: Aggies 30-21.

A rather nasty rivalry that few outside the Land of Enchantment know much about.

Air Force at Wyoming: Falcons 23-20.

Two traditionally-solid Mountain West programs have a combined 1-6 record, with the only victory over Merrimack (Air Force).

Last week: 41-13.
