PHOENIX The Arizona Diamondbacks are keeping one of their top young arms in Phoenix for the foreseeable future.

The D-backs announced Friday that they have signed righty Brandon Pfaadt to a five-year contract extension, which will keep Pfaadt in the Valley until at least 2030.

The team did not say how much the extension was worth, but USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that it is a $45 million deal.

The contract includes a club option for the 2021 season and a mutual option for the 2032 season.

If both options are exercised, Pfaadt, 26, would hit free agency after the 2032 season, when he will be 34 years old.

Pfaadt has become a key piece of the D-backs' rotation since emerging during Arizona's run to the 2023 World Series.

Pfaadt went 3-1 during that postseason, closing out all three of Arizona's series victories, including Game Seven of the National League Championship Series in Philadelphia.

During that run, Pfaadt became the youngest D-backs pitcher to start a home playoff game in team history and was just the third rookie to start a playoff game for the Snakes.

Over the course of his 51 games, including 50 starts, in two years with the D-backs, Pfaadt has gone 14-19 with a 5.06 ERA, 279 strikeouts and 68 walks.

Pfaadt is scheduled to make his 2025 season debut on Saturday against the Chicago Cubs at Chase Field.

First pitch for that game is scheduled for 5:10 p.m.
