No player in college football faces more pressure in 2025 than Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning.

That comes with the territory when you play the most scrutinized position in the sport and carry one of footballs most famous last names.

Manning is set to replace three-year starter Quinn Ewers , who helped lead Texas to back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinal appearances.

Now, the expectation in Austin is clear: take the next step and lead the Longhorns to a national championship.

Despite having limited experience under his belt, Manning is being projected as a breakout star by many national outlets, already expecting to be a top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft .

But not everyone is sold at least not yet.

In ESPNs ranking of the top 15 college quarterbacks for 2025, analyst Adam Rittenberg placed Manning at No.

12.

That puts him behind SMUs Kevin Jennings (No.

11) and Floridas D.J.

Lagway (No.

10).

The three quarterbacks behind Manning in the rankings are Illinois Luke Altmyer, Baylors Sawyer Robertson, and Dukes Darian Mensah.

"Normally first-year starters don't appear on national lists of top quarterbacks, and there are many others who have done more than Manning in actual games," Rittenberg explained.

"But Manning isn't a typical quarterback to evaluate.

He's the next generation of the nation's most-famous football family, has undeniable big-play ability -- even in limited action -- and will be entering his third year with coach Steve Sarkisian and a Longhorns team that has made consecutive CFP appearances.

Texas saw glimpses of the future last season, as Manning played extensively against UTSA, Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State, accounting for 10 total touchdowns in those wins.

He didn't attempt a pass in Texas' regular-season finale, the SEC championship or CFP." At the top of Rittenbergs list is Clemsons Cade Klubnik, one of the most experienced returning quarterbacks in the country.

But what stands out most is that four underclassmen rank ahead of Manning: Lagway (Florida), Nico Iamaleava (Tennessee, No.

8), Sam Leavitt (Arizona State, No.

6), and LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina, No.

5).

All but Lagway were full-time starters in 2024, with Leavitt leading the Sun Devils to a Big 12 title and a CFP berth.

That limited sample size may be holding him back in rankings for now, but the expectations in Austin and across the country are sky-high.

Considering his last name and the spotlight already on him, its only a matter of time before Arch Manning rises back up those lists assuming his play on the field lives up to the hype..
