The Los Angeles Clippers have been in the City of LA since 1984.

They moved here from San Diego, where they spent six years from 1978 to 1984, and prior to that, they spent their inaugural season of 1970 to 1978 in Buffalo.

Since coming to LA, it has been a battle to stay relevant and build a fan base to compete with the Los Angeles Lakers .

While the Clippers will never overtake the Lakers as LAs team, it is a huge market, and there are plenty of fans to back the team and keep them at the forefront in the City of Angels.

Today, however, the team, or the social media team at least, fumbled big time.

Happy Opening Day Good luck this season, @Padres ! https://t.co/LgdQs1uvHK Los Angeles Clippers Show Support For San Diego Padres Today is Opening Day in Major League Baseball.

The Dodgers begin their quest to repeat as World Series Champions, and the Angels begin their attempt to make the playoffs.

While the Clippers did also show support for the Dodgers and Angels, including the Padres, who are one of the Dodgers biggest rivals and have met the team in the playoffs multiple times as of late, was a terrible strategic move.

Just look at some of the comments.

And Clippers players wonder why the get booed at Dodger Stadium.

I dont care if they went Buffalo, SD.....

LA.

This tweet isnt helping your franchise.

I dont care if your best player has San Diego ties.

Its a bad look.

Proof that the Clippers are not a real LA team While social media does not speak to or for an entire fan base, showing support for a division rival is going to do nothing to help you build your fan base in your market.

Im sure the Clippers feel it is important to stay relevant in San Diego, as there is no basketball team there, but upsetting your actual market is certainly a bold choice.
