Villanova needs to get its next hire right.

Jay Wright's replacement, Kyle Neptune, missed the NCAA Tournament in all three of his seasons.

Wildcats fans get insult added to injury every time they see Wright comfortably analyzing college basketball from his perch on the CBS coverage of the NCAA Tournament.

But Villanova fans shouldn't turn off the television in disgust.

They might see their next coach during the Sweet 16, too.

Maryland's Kevin Willard is the heavy favorite for the job.

CBS insider Jon Rothstein reports it's almost a sure thing.

"Kevin Willard is going to weigh the offer to stay at Maryland," Rothstein said Wednesday night , "or he's going to go be the next head coach at Villanova." Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Last week, Willard spoke pretty openly about the rumors , seemingly in hopes of getting the Maryland athletic department to give the Terrapins more resources.

On Wednesday before the Sweet 16, he deflected questions and instead said he was only worried about slowing down Florida guard Walter Clayton Jr.

Whenever Maryland's season comes to an end, it's likely we'll soon find out what Willard is really doing.
