NFL Team Needs: Prioritizing Every Roster's Biggest Weaknesses Before Week 4

It's time to stop being surprised by NFL game outcomes.
Anything can, and probably will, happen.
The previously winless New York Giants, Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers, all road underdogs, as well as the home 'dog Los Angeles Rams, each won its first game of the campaign on Sunday.
The Seattle Seahawks, Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings are still unbeaten.
So, yeah, Week 3 pulled no punches.
Every week of the season, we'll assess the state of each roster with a particular focus on its weaknesses.
By the end of the campaign, we'll have built a big board for every team based on its biggest needs and wants.
Everything from immediate holes to fill to the offseason player carousel of free agency and the 2025 NFL draft is taken into account.
The weaknesses here are not just knee-jerk reactions to the weekend's games, but more an overarching assessment with both present and future roster-building in mind.
All AFC teams are scouted by Alex Ballentine , and all NFC teams are scouted by Matt Holder .
Top 2025 draft prospects may be highlighted in our latest Top 10 Mock Draft , while noted trade candidates are highlighted on our latest Trade Block Big Board .
Further analysis of every NFL roster will publish each Monday throughout the regular season.
The Arizona Cardinals made it a one-possession game against the Lions, but they didn't have enough firepower to pull off the upset.
That pushed the team's record to 1-2, but the silver lining is the Cardinals got good contributions from a couple of young players.
Safety Jalen Thompson ranked second on the team with nine total tackles and one for loss, while wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
has had back-to-back strong performances with five catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: OT La'el Collins Last week, Cam Fleming was suggested after Jonah Williams was placed on injured reserve, and the Cardinals' issues at right tackle only got worse during the preceding days as Kelvin Beachum got banged up as well.
The team would be wise to bring in another option at the position, and it could be worth it to bring Collins in for a workout at least to see what he has left in the tank.
The 31-year-old has been a good player in the past, but it has been two years since he's seen regular-season action.
2025 Free Agency: S Jevon Holland, Miami Dolphins Budda Baker is an impending free agent, which would be a huge blow to Arizona's defense if he walks.
Holland would be a great replacement option.
The 24-year-old who turns 25 in March is much younger and has a brighter future than Baker.
Also, the Oregon product has been very productive throughout his career with nearly 250 total tackles, five interceptions, 22 passes defended and five forced fumbles heading into Week 3 of the 2024 campaign.
Holland will likely command top dollar on the open market, but the Cardinals can afford him as they're currently projected to have just under $120 million of cap space available this spring, per Over The Cap .
2025 NFL Draft: CB Shavon Revel, East Carolina Monti Ossenfort is expected to be diving into this year's cornerbacks class as the defense could use some extra talent at the position, and the East Carolina product is a potential under-the-radar target for Ossenfort.
"Revel is a defensive back with great length and size (6'3" and 193 pounds), who also runs well for his size," B/R defensive backs scout Cory Giddings said.
"However, he can show inconsistent footwork when transitioning." That being said, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported Friday that Revel is out for the season with a torn ACL, which could impact his draft stock and might lead to him returning to school.
( Previous Week's Selections: OT Cam Fleming, EDGE Khalil Mack, DL Tyleik Williams ) The Atlanta Falcons managed to stay competitive with the defending back-to-back champions on Sunday night, but Atlanta ran out of the gas with only three points in the second half.
The Falcons defense managed to keep the Chiefs' high-powered offense in check with Justin Simmons collecting another interception against Patrick Mahomes, but the offense couldn't get off the ground with just 3.3 yards per carry.
The loss prevented Atlanta from evening up the early race for the NFC South lead as Tampa Bay and New Orleans also fell on Sunday.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: Trade for LB E.J.
Speed, Indianapolis Colts Nate Landman got placed on injured reserve after the season opener, leaving the Falcons thin at linebacker.
Also, Kaden Elliss and Troy Andersen haven't been good enough to begin the campaign.
So the front office should explore adding a second-level defender, and the Colt was ranked seventh overall on B/R's latest NFL Trade Block Big Board column .
"Speed, who had a breakout 102-tackle campaign last season, is set to be a free agent in 2025," B/R's Kristopher Knox wrote.
"He's a fast, physical, do-it-all linebacker who should draw trade interest even if Indianapolis isn't necessarily selling.
"Already this season, Speed has recorded 21 tackles and a quarterback hit.
He's also allowed an opposing passer rating of just 56.2 in coverage." 2025 Free Agency: EDGE Darrell Taylor, Chicago Bears Atlanta has four impending free agents at edge defender this offseason, including Matthew Judon and Lorenzo Carter.
Even with Bralen Trice returning from injury, that will make the position a need for the club in the spring.
Taylor would be a good target since he's been a productive pass-rusher throughout his career with 23.5 sacks in four years, including two through the first couple of weeks this season.
Granted, he's never been much of a run defender, but that should help keep his price tag down, which is good for an organization that is currently projected to have just under $12 million of cap space available, per Over The Cap .
2025 NFL Draft: C Parker Brailsford, Alabama Drew Dalman is an impending free agent and, as mentioned above, Terry Fontenot won't have a ton of cap space to re-sign Dalman in the spring.
Fontenot is likely doing his homework on the centers in this year's draft class, and Brailsford should be at the top of the general manager's list.
"While at Washington, Brailsford finished 2023 as the second-most valuable center in the nation according to PFF's wins above average metric," Pro Football Focus' Max Chadwick wrote.
"His 80.7 PFF run-blocking grade was the second-best among Power Five centers, trailing only [Raiders' second-round pick Jackson] Powers-Johnson.
He's at his best when he can utilize his elite athleticism out in space, leading all FBS centers in 2023 with a 90.7 PFF grade on zone runs." ( Previous Week's Selections: DB Jalen Mills, C Bradley Bozeman, CB Mansoor Delane ) The Ravens finally broke into the win column after an 0-2 start with a 28-25 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
The good news is that Derrick Henry finally looked like the difference maker the Ravens hoped he would be when they signed him.
He rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
However, there's still reason to be a little worried that things aren't great in Baltimore.
They struggled to close this game out after taking a 28-6 lead into the fourth quarter.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: RB Frank Gore Jr., Buffalo Bills practice squad The Ravens are choosing to carry a thin backfield on the active roster right now.
Derrick Henry and Justice Hill are the only active tailbacks to shoulder the rushing load with Lamar Jackson.
It's a fine approach because it keeps Patrick Ricard on the roster, but the Ravens also don't have a long-term answer at running back on the roster right now.
Plucking Frank Gore Jr.
off the Buffalo Bills practice squad would give them a young power back who could learn the offense and be ready to go if Henry or Hill is injured.
2025 Free Agency: Edge Darrell Taylor, Chicago Bears How many times can Kyle Van Noy come in and be a functional player in the Ravens system? It seems to be working for the second consecutive season, but it's going to be more risky every subsequent season.
Odafe Oweh finally looks like the dominant force the Ravens thought he could be when they drafted him in 2021.
David Ojabo is still a work in progress, though.
Darrell Taylor is starting to look like the 2022 version of himself that had 9.5 sacks.
He would be an intriguing free-agent target for the Ravens defense next season.
2025 NFL Draft: RB Kalel Mullings, Michigan Derrick Henry in this Ravens offense has been a fun idea, but it has the potential for a short shelf life.
Even if the Ravens sign someone like Frank Gore Jr., there's a good chance they'll be looking at another option in the draft.
Kalel Mullings was spotlighted last week as a prospect on the rise with this commentary from Damian Parson: "Mullings is also fleet-footed to string together multiple cuts and spin moves as he evades defenders in the open field.
The former linebacker (22 games played) has made the transition to running back look effortless." ( Previous Week's Selections : Edge Azeez Ojulari (trade), IOL Teven Jenkins, RB Ollie Gordon III ) Check back for the Bills after Monday Night Football against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
So far, it looks like Andy Dalton is the answer to all of the Carolina Panthers' problems! Dalton threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns during Carolina's beat down of Las Vegas as the Panthers looked like an entirely different team than what we've seen over the last two years.
The defense also held up its end of the bargain as a couple of late scores made the scoreboard look better, as this was a 33-7 game in the fourth quarter.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: Trade for QB Kyle Trask, Tampa Bay Buccaneers According to reports , Bryce Young was "pissed" about getting benched, and one has to figure this will hurt his confidence for the rest of the season.
It's hard to imagine a world where the Panthers can go back to Young as the starter, and the team will need a confident backup in case something happens to Andy Dalton.
Trask played for Dave Canales last year and was battling for the starting job in Tampa Bay with Baker Mayfield, so Trask should know the offense well.
Also, who knows, maybe he can be the organization's quarterback of the future.
While in-division trades are rare, the fourth-year pro is an impending free agent, so the Buccaneers might be willing to deal him if it means getting something in return.
Also, it's not as if the Panthers pose much of a threat to win the NFC South this season.
2025 Free Agency: WR Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals Carolina is currently projected to have about $43 million of cap space available this offseason, per Over The Cap , and the organization should be in the business of collecting young talent.
Also, with Diontae Johnson being an impending free agent and Adam Thielen getting up there in age, the front office should load up on wide receivers for its next quarterback.
Higgins will be one of the top wideouts, if not the top wideout, on the open market with his nearly 3,700 career receiving yards and 24 touchdowns in addition to only being 26 years old in January.
2025 NFL Draft: QB Carson Beck, Georgia As mentioned above, it seems like Young's time in Carolina is coming to an abrupt end.
The organization will likely be exploring this year's quarterback class, and the Georgia product is a good player to start that process with.
"Beck can bring immediate stability to the quarterback room," B/R offensive skill positions scout Damian Parson said.
"He is an accurate passer with great ball placement and timing on middle-of-the-field throws.
Beck's superpower is toggling between throwing with velocity and touch." ( Previous Week's Selections: DT Ross Blacklock, LB Willie Gay Jr., WR Tetairoa McMillan ) While Caleb Williams managed to throw for over 360 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with fellow rookie Rome Odunze for their firsts as professionals, the two interceptions ended up being costly in the Chicago Bears' one-possession loss.
Also, the quarterback did attempt over 50 passes to inflate the numbers.
Williams still has plenty of room for growth, but he also provided some reason for optimism moving forward.
It's just a matter of if he can put it all together before Chicago's season gets out of hand.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: OT David Bakhtiari Part of the issue with Caleb Williams to begin the season is the Bears offensive line hasn't been great in pass protection.
Especially with Larry Borom on injured reserve, the front office should look into bringing in Bakhtiari to give the offense a veteran insurance policy to turn to.
If healthy, he can help give Williams a little more time to throw when called upon.
2025 Free Agency: WR Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Keenan Allen is only on a one-year deal and has been banged up to begin the season.
The 32-year-old has also been dealing with injuries over the last few years, so there's a chance Chicago opts not to re-sign him in the offseason, which would leave the offense with a need at wide receiver.
Luckily, Ryan Poles is currently projected to begin the offseason with about $73 million of cap space available, per Over The Cap , so Poles has enough funds to go after a big fish.
Godwin will be one of the best wide receivers on the open market as he's logged four 1,000-yard seasons in the last five years and is off to a good start in 2024 with 253 yards in three games.
2025 NFL Draft: CB Mansoor Delane, Virginia Tech While Tyrique Stevenson has shown good ball skills to begin this season, he's been the most targeted cornerback (19) and is tied for the fifth-most receptions allowed (10) through Week 2, per Pro Football Focus .
So the Bears should at least be exploring other corner options in the draft, and the Hokie is an intriguing prospect.
"Delane is an aggressive press man defender who likes to get hands on and reroute receivers," B/R defensive backs scout Cory Giddings said.
"He also has scheme versatility to play in man or zone coverages." ( Previous Week's Selections: C Connor McGovern, G Brandon Scherff, OT Aireontae Ersery ) Check back for the Bengals after Monday Night Football against the Washington Commanders.
Things could not have gone worse for the Cleveland Browns offense on Sunday.
A slew of injuries and a lack of execution left the Browns offense rudderless in a 21-15 loss to the New York Giants.
The offensive line was decimated by injuries and couldn't adjust to the Giants aggressive blitzing game.
The Browns are a team with a lot of questions to answer.
If they don't figure them out quickly it could be another year of squandering a good defense.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: OT Donovan Smith The hits just keep on coming for the Cleveland Browns offensive line.
Wyatt Teller, James Hudson and Jedrick Wills all suffered injuries on Sunday and left the Browns in crisis on the offensive line.
It's going to be tough sledding for this offense to get on the right track if they don't find some reinforcements as soon as possible.
Donovan Smith had his share of struggles with the Chiefs last season, but he's still an experienced option who could make a few spot starts for the Browns this season.
2025 Free Agency: WR Dyami Brown, Washington Commanders Changes in the Browns wide receiver corps are coming.
Amari Cooper has been a solid No.
1 option for the Browns, but they did not indulge him with a contract extension ahead of the season, and Cleveland's offense is not at a point where committing to a 31-year-old with a multiyear deal is a wise move.
Instead, the Browns will likely be looking for younger, cheaper talent that might still have some developmental meat on the proverbial bone.
That would be someone like Dyami Brown.
He's not likely to ever become a No.
1 receiver, but he's getting a lot of run for the Commanders this season and will be a 26-year-old free agent next offseason.
2025 NFL Draft: RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State Nick Chubb, Nyheim Hines and D'Onta Foreman are all set to be free agents next season.
We still have to wait to see what Chubb will look like when he returns to the lineup from the devastating knee injury that has kept him out since the beginning of last season.
Regardless, the Browns should take an interest in this year's class of running backs.
Kevin Stefanski's offense has done its best work with a running back who can create yards and generate explosive plays.
Boise State's Ashton Jeanty is everything you want from a modern back.
He has the running ability to rip off big plays in the run game, but he's also a lethal pass-catching option out of the backfield.
( Previous Week's Selections : S Ryan Neal, LB Dre Greenlaw, QB Quinn Ewers ) The Dallas Cowboys ended up going on a run and making a small comeback, but the effort fell short as the team fell to 1-2 with the three-point loss to the Ravens.
Dallas' run defense continues to be a major issue as Baltimore gashed the Cowboys for 274 rushing yards and over six yards per carry.
Something has to change soon before the season gets out of hand.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: DT Mike Purcell Nose tackle was an issue for the Cowboys heading into the season as Mazi Smith had a disappointing rookie campaign.
So far in 2024, Smith hasn't been any better with a 27.9 run defense grade from Pro Football Focus through two weeks, and Linval Joseph has struggled as well with a mark of 29.9 .
It'd make sense for the team to add another option in case those two continue to struggle.
Purcell has been a solid run defender in his career and can line up over the center to be a solid pickup at this stage.
2025 Free Agency: RB Aaron Jones, Minnesota Vikings Ezekiel Elliott's and Rico Dowdle's contracts are set to expire at the end of the season, leaving Dallas with a need for running backs.
Even if one of them gets retained, the offense could still use a dynamic option out of the backfield seeing as Deuce Vaughn hasn't gotten much playing time.
Jones could be that option seeing as he has roughly 280 catches for about 2,100 receiving yards in his career.
While the 29-year-old, who turns 30 in December, won't have a long tenure with the club, that will also help keep his price tag down especially if it means playing for a potential Super Bowl contender.
2025 NFL Draft: EDGE Landon Jackson, Arkansas DeMarcus Lawrence is about to be a 33-year-old free agent, meaning his days in Dallas could be numbered.
Even if Lawrence is re-signed, it will likely be on a short-term deal, and the defense could use a long-term solution at the position.
At 6'7" and 280 pounds, Jackson has great size for an NFL defensive end.
He also has more bend than one might think for someone of his stature, and he's physical at the point of attack to be a good run defender.
That combined with the Razorback's productive 2023 campaign ( 6.5 sacks and 14 TFL ) should put him on Jerry Jones' radar.
(Previous Week's Selections: LB Zach Cunningham, WR Tutu Atwell, DL T.J.
Sanders ) The Broncos offered a glimmer of hope and cautious optimism in a 26-7 win over the Buccaneers.
Bo Nix looked much improved even if they didn't put too much on his plate.
He completed 25 of his 36 pass attempts for 216 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
The defense was a real highlight, giving up just a touchdown to a Buccaneers offense that looked good in the first two games of the season.
They sacked Baker Mayfield seven times and rookie Dondrea Tillman was responsible for two of them.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: RB Dameon Pierce, Houston Texans (trade) Bo Nix has struggled early this season.
That's to be expected.
But the Broncos' lifeless running game has to share some of the blame.
Javonte Williams does not look explosive and Audric Estime is on the injured reserve.
Jaleel McLaughlin is not a traditional between-the-tackles runner.
The free-agent market is mostly picked over, so a trade might be the only thing that could bring some juice to this backfield.
Dameon Pierce is quickly recovering from a hamstring injury, but Dan Graziano of ESPN noted that Cam Akers could have a big role with Joe Mixon out.
2025 Free Agency: C Ryan Kelly, Indianapolis Colts The Broncos are trying to support Bo Nix, but the offensive line isn't necessarily doing him any favors.
Part of the problem is that they didn't do enough to replace Lloyd Cushenberry III in free agency.
Luke Wattenberg is getting an opportunity to do it, but he hasn't been convincing.
There aren't a ton of high-level centers who are set to hit free agency, but Ryan Kelly is an exception.
He's a tough, veteran blocker who would add a level of leadership that is needed up front.
2025 NFL Draft: WR Tory Horton, Colorado State The Broncos are going to have to continue to look for answers at receiver as they rebuild this offense to Sean Payton's vision.
They don't have to go far to scout Colorado State standout Tory Horton.
Here's Damian Parson on what Horton could do in the league.
"Tory Horton brings a versatile playmaker to a passing offense.
He wins at every level of the defense.
Horton is a good zone beater with coverage recognition skills to find the voids in the defense before settling into them.
He plays with spatial awareness and a strong feel for locating incoming defenders once the ball is in his hands.
For a taller receiver, he is quicker and twitcher than expected.
He can string together evasive maneuvers to force missed tackles in the open field and generate yards after the catch.
Horton can operate as an NFL WR2/3." ( Previous Week's Selections : RB Chris Rodriguez Jr., WR Chris Godwin, DT T.J.
Sanders ) The Detroit Lions' fast start was just enough to hold off the Cardinals as Detroit jumped out to a 20-7 lead in the second quarter but only managed to win by three points.
The team grinded out the win on the ground, running 43 times for 187 yards as David Montgomery led the way with 23 touches, 105 yards and a score.
That helps the Lions keep pace with the Packers in the NFC North, but they still trail the surprisingly undefeated Vikings for the early lead.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: Trade for CB Kaiir Elam, Buffalo Bills Cornerback has been an issue for the Lions dating back to last season, and it's still one of the team's biggest weaknesses.
Meanwhile, B/R's Kristopher Knox listed Elam as a trade candidate in this week's NFL Trade Block Big Board column .
The third-year pro may not be the proven commodity the organization is hoping for, but that's primarily because he's been stuck behind Christian Benford.
The 2022 first-round pick has plenty of talent to potentially contribute right away and be part of the long-term solution at corner.
2025 Free Agency: DE DeMarcus Lawrence, Dallas Cowboys Marcus Davenport is only on a one-year deal, and it remains to be seen if he should be given a contract extension in the offseason.
In the meantime, Detroit should be doing its homework on this year's free-agent pool at defensive end to ensure Aidan Hutchinson has some help moving forward.
While Lawrence's sack numbers have gone down in recent years, he's an edge-setter and plays the physical brand of football that Dan Campbell covets.
The 32-year-old posted an elite 92.4 run-defense grade from Pro Football Focus last season, and he can still win as a pass-rusher with 48 total pressures in 2023.
2025 NFL Draft: DL Walter Nolen, Ole Miss Re-signing Alim McNeill might be a priority for Brad Holmes this spring, but Holmes might want to explore other options at defensive tackle in this year's draft class.
Nolen should be on the general manager's radar, as he has good size (6'3" and 305 pounds) and impressive strength at the point of attack.
The Ole Miss product also has the quickness and a solid swim move to develop as a pass-rusher.
That is starting to come to fruition as, according to PFF , he led defensive tackles with five pressures in Week 3 of the college football season.
( Previous Week's Selections: S Rudy Ford, CB Charvarius Ward, IOL Tyler Booker ) The Green Bay Packers have picked up back-to-back wins without Jordan Love as Malik Willis put together a strong performance against the team that drafted him.
Willis only threw 19 times but managed to post 13 completions for 202 yards and a touchdown while throwing no interceptions and adding 73 more yards and another score on the ground.
That helps the team keep pace in the NFC North and might make it easier to rest Love for one more week.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: Trade for D.J.
Jones, Denver Broncos Defensive tackle has been a sore spot for the Packers to begin the year with Kenny Clark battling an injury and the rest of the group underperforming.
Meanwhile, B/R's Kristopher Knox listed Jones as a potential trade candidate in his recent NFL Trade Block Big Board column.
The Bronco would be a good pickup because he has experience playing several different alignments on the interior defensive line, lining up anywhere from nose tackle to a 4i-technique.
So he could be a solid depth piece to call upon if someone else is struggling.
2025 Free Agency: LT Cam Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars Rasheed Walker has been solid since taking over as Green Bay's left tackle last season, but Walker's play isn't good enough to deter the front office from at least exploring other options in free agency.
Robinson hasn't been a good run-blocker throughout his career, but he's earned pass-blocking grades in the mid-70s from Pro Football Focus every year since 2021.
Plus, it helps that he'll only be 29 years old at the start of next season.
2025 NFL Draft: RB Omarion Hampton, North Carolina While Josh Jacobs is the lead back for the Packers, AJ Dillon (impending free agent) and MarShawn Lloyd are on injured reserve, and the team could use a bruiser to take some of the load off Jacobs' shoulders.
The 2022 rushing champ has battled injuries in the past and the Tar Heel could be the perfect complement for him in Green Bay's backfield.
"Hampton offers an NFL team a potential three-down running back," B/R offensive skill positions scout Damian Parson said.
"He is well-built with an evenly proportionate frame, similar to Cleveland Browns star running back Nick Chubb.
Hampton runs with a violent demeanor seeking to finish runs with physicality.
"He will run through defenders or pinball off initial contact and churn out yards after contact.
Hampton is a high-volume runner who epitomizes the old adage 'gets stronger as the game goes on.' The Tar Heel is a scheme-versatile RB and an impact offensive weapon." ( Previous Week's Selections: IOL Mason Cole, DT Folorunso Fatukasi, CB Tacario Davis ) The Texans were everyone's favorite team to take a leap in 2024, but they certainly didn't look the part in Week 3.
The Vikings defense jumped the offense and the Texans didn't have many answers.
Brian Flores' defense blitzed Houston and successfully threw C.J.
Stroud off his game.
It certainly didn't help that the Texans had no ground game to speak of.
With Joe Mixon out of the lineup they ran for 38 yards on 14 carries.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: RB Jerick McKinnon The Texans' running back depth is already being tested this season.
Joe Mixon was out this week and Dameon Pierce has been dealing with a hamstring injury.
It's hard to find running backs at this stage of the game that aren't completely unproven or at the tail end of their careers.
32-year-old Jerick McKinnon might fall into that latter category, but he still brings value as a pass-catching back.
The fact that he spent a lot of time with the Chiefs and could help with some information come playoff time doesn't hurt either.
2025 Free Agency: DT Bobby Brown III, Los Angeles Rams The Houston Texans have their dynamic edge-rusher pairing in Will Anderson Jr.
and Danielle Hunter.
Now, they have to continue to build a strong interior to have the kind of dominant front four that DeMeco Ryans would like to build.
Signing Bobby Brown III away from the Los Angeles Rams would be a huge step toward building that.
At 6'4", 324 pounds, he's one of the top young nose tackles in the game.
He would upgrade their run defense while still providing a little bit of pocket-pushing upside as a pass-rusher.
2025 NFL Draft: CB Jabbar Muhammad, Oregon The Texans have a solid secondary in place, but age has to be a concern moving forward.
Jimmie Ward is still playing a major role, and Eric Murray isn't getting any younger.
Jalen Pitre has to come up and play nickel quite a bit.
Finding someone else who could fill that role so that Pitre can play elsewhere might be a priority down the road.
Jabbar Muhammad is not a likely first-round pick, but he does a lot of things that could translate to the league.
A move to the inside where he wouldn't have to press might be good for him.
Here's Cory Giddings on his game right now: "Super twitchy cornerback who shows good explosion.
His undersized frame can lead to him getting pushed around on the edge." ( Previous Week's Selections : CB/S Patrick Peterson, DT Javon Kinlaw, IOL Earnest Greene III ) The Coltsgot their first win of the season over the Chicago Bears, but there are still major questions to answer.
Anthony Richardson put further another bad performance, completing just 10 of his 20 passing attempts and adding two picks to his stat line.
He's going to have some games like that, but they are still concerning in terms of his long-term development.
In order to win games while Richardson is still figuring things out, the Colts have to play great defense.
That was an issue in the first two weeks, but they did well to force some turnovers of their own including two interceptions from Jaylon Jones.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: CB Emmanuel Forbes, Washington Commanders The Colts are clearly still searching for answers in the secondary.
They have a group of intriguing young defenders, and one of the goals for this season should be to identify who is worth counting on in 2024.
Emmanuel Forbes has had a hard time adjusting to the NFL since getting drafted in the first round by the Commanders.
However, it might be time for a fresh start.
He wasn't drafted by the Commanders' current regime and he's been out of the lineup with a thumb injury.
For the Colts, this would be a low-cost dart throw on a potential solution at a position of need.
2025 Free Agency: LB David Long Jr., Miami Dolphins The Colts might be in for a reset at the linebacker position.
The unit just hasn't been as good since Shaquille Leonard dropped off with injuries, and all of the current group is either on an expiring contract or not playing at a high level.
David Long Jr.
is the kind of veteran who will come in and change the tenor of the group.
He's a downhill, physical player who excels at setting the tone.
Combined with bringing in younger talent through the draft, the Colts could begin rebuilding their linebacker corps.
2025 NFL Draft: S Nick Emmanwori, South Carolina It's clear that the Colts' biggest issues reside with the defense.
They were ranked 31st overall in total defense and giving up 400 yards per game going into Week 3.
A young secondary that is still trying to come together is one of the main culprits.
Rather than trying to piece something together with a few Day 3 picks, the Colts might want to look into adding a bona fide weapon like Nick Emmanwori in next year's draft.
Emmanwori was highlighted as one of our top rising prospects last week.
The 6'3", 227-pound jumbo safety could bring the edge to a secondary that needs to find an identity.
( Previous Week's Selections : CB Jonathan Jones (trade), S Jevon Holland, DB Jahdae Burton ) Check back for the Jaguars after Monday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills.
As long as the Chiefs have a healthy Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid calling the offense, they are going to have a shot every week.
Their 22-17 win over the Falcons was the latest example, as the offense kept humming right along without Isiah Pacheco.
The Chiefs got enough out of Carson Steele and Samaje Perine at running back to keep things going for the 3-0 defending champions.
The defense deserves a lot of the credit, though.
It made some big plays in key situations, giving up just two third-down conversions on nine attempts by the Falcons.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: DT Siaki Ika, Cleveland Browns Practice Squad The Chiefs continue to experiment with playing Chris Jones on the edge more.
It's a smart thing to do with one of the best defensive players in the game.
However, it leaves a shallow defensive tackle room even more exposed.
It would be a good idea for Kansas City to explore some options to bolster its depth on the interior.
There aren't a lot of good options on the free-agent market, but poaching a young player like Siaki Ika from a team like the Browns with a lot of depth at the position would be smart.
2025 Free Agency: CB Eric Stokes, Green Bay Packers Eric Stokes is going to be an interesting free agent.
Injuries have made him difficult to evaluate.
He played in only 12 games in the 2022 and 2023 seasons and didn't look anywhere near as good as he did as a rookie in 2021.
Thus far, he's remained healthy and looked good on the field.
The Chiefs are the kind of team that could take a swing on a risky player like Stokes.
They've done well enough at drafting and developing defensive backs that they would be OK if he gets hurt.
On the other hand, they could get the best and most healthy version we've seen of Stokes next season.
2025 NFL Draft: IOL Earnest Greene III, Georgia One of the only downsides to being good at drafting and developing players is that eventually you have to let some really good players walk.
The Chiefs have already committed big money to Creed Humphrey on the interior of the offensive line and Trey Smith's contract is set to expire.
Even if they do sign Smith, Joe Thuney isn't getting any younger, and drafting an interior lineman might be on the agenda.
Earnest Greene III has seen his stock rise as the college football season progresses and he paves running lanes in Georgia's offense.
Here's Brandon Thorn on the interior lineman: "Greene operates at left tackle in more of a guard's frame at 6'4", 320 pounds with enough movement skills to make it work but whose game is predicated mostly off heavy hands and square power at the point of attack.
"Greene's body control and pad level also leave something to be desired in terms of sustaining blocks with proper leverage, but there are reps of him delivering jolt and knocking defenders back to open lanes as well.
"Greene is still figuring out his technique, footwork and overall use of leverage but has the raw physical traits that we've come to expect from Georgia left tackles that hopefully will lead to more refinement as the year goes on." ( Previous Week's Selections : RB Frank Gore Jr., WR Tyler Johnson, Edge Princely Umanmielen ) The Raiders are supposed to be a tough, defensive team under Antonio Pierce.
Giving up 36 points against Andy Dalton and the Carolina Panthers in 2024 brings all of that into question.
Dalton turned back the clock and put up 319 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions against a Raiders defense that had very few answers.
This is the kind of loss that could be the beginning of a dark spiral if changes aren't made quickly.
If there's a silver lining it's that Aidan O'Connell got some playing time and played well.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: Edge Azeez Ojulari, New York Giants (trade) The Raiders are nearly in crisis mode with their group of edge-rushers.
Malcolm Koonce went on the injured reserve a few weeks ago.
Tyree Wilson has been banged up, and the Raiders are getting almost no help on the edges for Maxx Crosby.
It might be time for the Raiders to start making some phone calls.
Ringing Joe Schoen might be a good first move.
Azeez Ojulari has been featured on our trade block big board for a while, and he might have more success in Patrick Graham's defense.
He put up eight sacks as a rookie when Graham was defensive coordinator for the Giants.
2025 Free Agency: CB Charvarius Ward, San Francisco 49ers The Raiders felt fairly confident in Jack Jones after he finished last season on a tear.
However, the secondary has been shaky through the first three weeks of the season, and adding talent at cornerback is likely to be a project that continues into 2025.
Charvarius Ward has proved he can get the job done for two different Super Bowl contenders.
Making a run at Ward in free agency would be a way to carry less stress about the position next season.
2025 NFL Draft: WR Tre Harris, Ole Miss The wide receiver position doesn't jump out as an immediate need right now, but when you start to think what this receiving crew would look like without Davante Adams, things become a little more scary.
Brock Bowers is the de facto No.
2 receiver right now, and Jakobi Meyers has been relatively quiet.
Addressing the position in the draft would allow the Raiders to have a more concrete exit strategy from the Adams era while supporting whoever is playing at quarterback next season.
Tre Harris brings a good 6'2", 210-pound frame to the table that he uses to bully opposing defensive backs.
He has some work to do and doesn't appear to have the speed to be a separator at the next level, but could be a functional receiver if he masters route running.
( Previous Week's Selections : CB Xavien Howard, RB Jaylen Warren, Edge Jack Sawyer ) Jim Harbaugh's team hit its first real bump in the road in a 20-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"Bump" in the road might be underselling it a bit.
It was more of a mountain.
Justin Herbert, Joey Bosa, Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt all left the game with injuries.
That might four of their top five players on the roster.
Herbert is obviously the most concerning injury.
He appeared to have aggravated the ankle injury that put him on the injury report ahead of the game.
If he is forced to miss time the Chargers offense is in big trouble.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: DT D.J.
Jones, Denver Broncos At this point, the Chargers are sitting with a winning record through three weeks and Jim Harbaugh is proving he can pilot a quick turnaround.
That should make the Chargers feel good about making a few win-now moves that will improve their chances of getting into the playoffs.
Trading for D.J.
Jones would be one of those moves.
In-division trades are always tricky, but Jones has just one year left on his deal, and getting a draft pick for him could be a mutual win if the clubs could come to an agreement.
He's a much better run-stuffing defensive tackle than Morgan Fox, who is better suited as a pass-rush specialist.
2025 Free Agency: Edge Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, Tampa Bay Buccaneers The Chargers have been playing solid defense this season, but the future of the edge-rusher group is still questionable.
Joey Bosa has been playing at an elite level this season, and Khalil Mack is still disruptive.
However, Bosa is approaching his age-30 season and has a concerning injury history.
Mack will be 34 next season.
Tuli Tuipulotu is a promising part of the future, but it will take more resources to transition the room next season.
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka isn't likely to live up to his first-round draft capital, but he would provide a depth player with a lot of experience.
2025 NFL Draft: IOL Jonah Monheim, USC The Chargers have the potential to put together one of the best offensive lines in the league.
They have invested heavily in the unit through the draft with Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt forming the foundation for a young, dominant line that aligns with Jim Harbaugh's philosophy on offense.
The work is probably not finished, though.
Trey Pipkins playing on the inside is still a concern, and Bradley Bozeman is a stopgap solution a center.
Jonah Monheim is an interesting prospect to watch because he has played all five positions at USC and has since settled in at the pivot.
He needs to add some mass to his frame and isn't always a dominant run-blocker, but the versatility is something that could help the Chargers moving forward.
( Previous Week's Selections : WR Robert Woods, LB David Long Jr., WR Antwane Wells Jr.
) The Los Angeles Rams managed to come from behind and win a matchup that essentially came down to what team could overcome the most injuries as San Francisco and Los Angeles were both missing several key players.
Los Angeles needed a wide receiver to step up, and while Tutu Atwell didn't find the end zone, he answered the call with four catches for 93 yards to help the team overcome two 14-point deficits.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: Trade for WR Robert Woods, Houston Texans The hits just keep on coming for the Rams as the team placed even more players on injured reserve this week.
The two position groups that have been impacted the most are the offensive line and wide receiver.
A lineman was suggested last time, so this week's column will address the skill position with a player who was ranked third on B/R's NFL Trade Block Big Board column.
"The Rams are the most logical landing spot for Woods for a couple of reasons," B/R's Kristopher Knox wrote.
"For one, they're without their top two receivers and could be for some time.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport , [Puka] Nacua could be out until Week 9.
[Cooper] Kupp is expected to miss extended time.
"Secondly, Los Angeles is familiar with Woods, who previously spent five seasons with the franchise." 2025 Free Agency: IOL Lucas Patrick, New Orleans Saints If the Rams brass has learned anything from the start of this season, it's that a team can never have too many offensive linemen.
While Patrick wouldn't be the sexiest pickup and would likely come in as a backup, he has experience playing all three interior offensive line spots, which would come in handy for a situation like the one the club is currently in.
Also, the 31-year-old has had a strong start to the 2024 campaign with an elite 92.2 grade from Pro Football Focus through two games.
2025 NFL Draft: TE Colston Loveland, Michigan Tyler Higbee is currently on PUP and Les Snead would save $5.5 million this offseason by making Higbee a post-June 1 cut, per Over The Cap .
Drafting a tight end is on the table for Snead, and the Michigan product is an intriguing option.
"Loveland is my top tight end prospect for the 2025 NFL draft," B/R offensive skill positions scout Damian Parson said.
"He blends outstanding, height/weight, agility, vertical speed and route running.
Loveland moves with immense quickness and fluidity to separate against any coverage defender.
"He is the type of tight end that NFL offenses want to funnel their passing attack through.
He is the most complete prospect at the position with his willingness and effectiveness as a run blocker." ( Previous Week's Selections: IOL Mason Cole, LT Garett Bolles, CB Denzel Burke ) The Dolphins showed a lot of trust in Skylar Thompson and their offense after placing Tua Tagovailoa on injured reserve to recover from the concussion he suffered in Week 2.
Just one game into starting Thompson and it looks like that trust has been misplaced.
Thompson went 13-of-19 for 107 yards while the Dolphins managed just three points.
Even without top-level quarterback play that's less damage than any offense with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle should do.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: QB Jimmy Garoppolo, Los Angeles Rams (trade) The Dolphins have placed Tua Tagovailoa on injured reserve, so the soonest he can play is Week 8.
That said, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that Tagovailoa is seeing concussion specialists and that there is no timeline for his return.
Given his extensive history of concussions, that could mean any number of things.
In the meantime, the Dolphins are rolling with Skylar Thompson.
It's a risky strategy given his limited experience and the Dolphins' opportunity to compete in the AFC East.
Jimmy Garoppolo was just reinstated after serving a two-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.
His experience running a Kyle Shanahan offense could be invaluable even if he just ends up being the backup.
2025 Free Agency: S Julian Blackmon, Indianapolis Colts There's a good chance the Dolphins secondary looks different in 2025.
They have a lot of pieces who are either aging or set to become free agents.
In the case of starting safety Jordan Poyer, it's both.
He signed a one-year deal this offseason and he's starting to show the wear an tear of being in his 30s.
Jevon Holland is also set to be a free agent, but the way he has played, it wouldn't be surprising to see them make sure that he is retained.
Pairing him with Julian Blackmon would give them two experienced safeties in their prime.
2025 NFL Draft: DT Howard Cross III, Notre Dame The Dolphins have a promising pairing of edge-rushers in Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb.
Now they have to find that interior presence who can cause some havoc and force one-on-one matchups with those guys.
Howard Cross III is a little undersized, but Matt Holder still likes some of the things he brings to the table.
"Cross is undersized at 6'1" and 288 pounds, but he's quick off the ball and can shoot gaps to penetrate the offensive line.
Additionally, he has more strength at the point of attack than one might expect from someone of his stature.
That being said, the Notre Dame product's lack of size does become an issue against double-teams, and he has a habit of dropping his hands as a pass-rusher, which could lead to him struggling to be productive in the NFL." ( Previous Week's Selections : QB Ryan Tannehill, S Tre'von Moehrig, DL Nic Scourton ) Every week the Minnesota Vikings have managed to surprise us so far this season.
This time it was a 34-7 dismantling of Houston, who many think is a Super Bowl contender, as Minnesota made a strong statement that the team is ready to compete with the best.
Aaron Jones had an especially impressive outing with 24 touches for 148 total yards and a score.
That makes the team 3-0 and keeps it on top of the division standings early in the season.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: G Mark Glowinski Ed Ingram has continued to struggle this year, and while Dalton Risner could be coming off injured reserve soon to provide some help, there's no guarantee Risner will be ready to go by the time he's eligible to return or that he'll be the same player post-injury.
So it'd be a smart move to add another veteran guard like Glowinski just in case.
2025 Free Agency: WR Tyler Boyd, Tennessee Titans Minnesota could use a third wide receiver to play alongside Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison to give J.J.
McCarthy another quality target to throw to moving forward, assuming Sam Darnold isn't retained in the offseason.
Boyd would be perfect in that role seeing as that's how he was used with the Cincinnati Bengals for the last several years.
He's been a consistent producer with roughly 2,300 yards as a WR3 from 2021 to 2023 and shouldn't be too expensive in free agency.
2025 NFL Draft: S Malachi Moore, Alabama With Harrison Smith's and Cam Bynum's contracts set to expire at the end of the year, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will likely be looking into this year's safety class during the NFL draft.
Meanwhile, the Alabama product projects to be one of the top players at the position.
"Moore is a ball-hawking safety with great range as a deep safety," B/R defensive backs scout Cory Giddings said.
"He's also versatile enough to come down and play man over slot receivers to impact the defense in multiple areas." ( Previous Week's Selections: WR Russell Gage, S Tre'von Moehrig, RB Quinshon Judkins ) After pulling off an upset and taking the Seahawks to overtime in Week 2, the New England Patriots finally looked like the team we thought they'd be at the beginning of the season in Week 3.
The offense was completely stagnant and managed just three points and 139 total yards.
The bright side was that Patriots fans got their first look at Drake Maye, but he was sacked twice while completing four of his eight passing attempts.
The small sample kind of confirmed that this offensive line isn't ready to support a rookie quarterback.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: OL Lucas Niang, Kansas City Chiefs Practice Squad The Patriots didn't have a great offensive line on paper, and injuries have made the group an even bigger liability.
While frustrated fans might want to see Drake Maye, it's not a good idea to throw a developing young quarterback behind this offensive line.
At this point, the Patriots should be looking around the league to see if there are any practice squad players who might be able to help.
Lucas Niang started nine games for the Chiefs as a rookie and worked as a guard this summer.
He's worth a shot as someone who can come in and potentially step in at either spot.
2025 Free Agency: DT Osa Odighizuwa, Dallas Cowboys All things considered, the Patriots are off to a better start than could have been anticipated.
That bodes well for Jerod Mayo's future as the head coach, but they will have to add talent in a hurry if they are going to make things work and be competitive in the AFC East.
The Patriots are missing Christian Barmore on the inside, but his future is up in the air as he has been diagnosed with blood clots that could keep him out for the season.
Osa Odighizuwa is going to be one of the best available interior defensive linemen in free agency next season.
He's gotten better every season in Dallas and would be a solid addition to New England's defensive line.
2025 NFL Draft: OT Emery Jones Jr., LSU One of the biggest things holding the Patriots back right now is the offensive line.
If they had even an average offensive line, they would be able to play Drake Maye and make the most out of a season where they aren't ready to compete.
Instead, they are going to have to rely on practice reps and game preparation to get their rookie ready to take over later this season or in Year 2.
Drafting a tackle like Emery Jones Jr.
could help.
He still has to develop, but he offers franchise-tackle upside.
Here's Brandon Thorn on his early progress from this season.
"After a poor first outing this season, Jones has flashed some more tact and patience in his game but still needs to make strides in this area to better sustain and control blocks.
There is no denying his size, power and rugged demeanor can deliver body blows on defenders, which is where his primary appeal is coming from so far this year." ( Previous Week's Selections : IOL Max Garcia, IOL Teven Jenkins, LB Harold Jenkins Jr.
) The clock struck midnight on the New Orleans Saints' dominant run to begin the season as Derek Carr and the passing attack cooled off with just 142 passing yards in the 15-12 defeat to the Eagles.
The silver linings for New Orleans are Chris Olave had a strong outing with six catches for 86 yards and a touchdown, and the team is still tied for the early NFC South lead with Tampa Bay's loss.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: Trade for S Budda Baker, Arizona Cardinals The Saints have been arguably the biggest surprise team during the early stages of the season as they look like a legitimate contender in the NFC South.
However, the defense could use another safety to play alongside Tyrann Mathieu, and the Cardinal ranked sixth overall on B/R's NFL Trade Block Big Board column last week.
"Baker looms as Arizona's top realistic trade chip," B/R's Kristopher Knox wrote.
"He's a six-time Pro Bowler who remains an elite playmaker at 28 years old.
He's also set to be a free agent in 2025.
"The Cardinals should expect to receive trade calls if they slide at all before November 5.
Even if they're not eager to move him, doing so would certainly yield a substantial draft haul." 2025 Free Agency: G Dalton Risner, Minnesota Vikings While Lucas Patrick played well in Weeks 1 and 2, he's an impending free agent who doesn't have a good track record in the NFL so it's too early to say he should be re-signed in the offseason.
In the meantime, New Orleans should explore other options at guard, and Risner could be a good fit for the team.
Klint Kubiak and Kevin O'Connell come from the same Kyle Shanahan/Sean McVay coaching tree and run similar offenses with heavy doses of play-action and zone runs.
So the current Viking should have familiarity with the system.
Plus, Kubiak and Risner worked together for a year (2022) with the Denver Broncos.
2025 NFL Draft: CB Benjamin Morrison, Notre Dame Paulson Adebo's contract expires at the end of the year and Marshon Lattimore could be a cap casualty this offseason since the Saints could save about $21 million of cap space by making Lattimore a post-June 1 cut, per Over The Cap .
In other words, Mickey Loomis might be exploring this year's cornerback class, and the Notre Dame product would be a good player to start with.
"Morrison is one of the more technically sound cornerbacks in college football," B/R defensive backs scout Cory Giddings said.
"An aggressive cornerback who likes to press, he does a very good job of getting his hands on and disrupting receivers down the field.
He has quick feet with little wasted movement when transitioning while also showing top-notch ball skills to make plays on downfield passes." ( Previous Week's Selections: G Mark Glowinski, S Mike Edwards, OL Emery Jones ) The New York Giants managed to get their first win of the season clinging to a 21-7 halftime lead over the Browns and winning by six.
Even more encouraging, rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers has put together back-to-back strong performances with eight catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: DL Hassan Ridgeway Outside of Dexter Lawrence, the Giants' defensive tackles are pretty underwhelming.
Ridgeway isn't a game-changer by any means, but those types of players aren't available at this stage, and he could at least give the defense another experienced option to turn to.
The eight-year veteran has been a solid rotational player throughout his career and logged 28 tackles, three TFL and four quarterback hits while playing in 12 games with just seven starts for the 49ers two years ago.
2025 Free Agency: QB Kyle Trask, Tampa Bay Buccaneers In what's viewed as a make-or-break year, the season hasn't been going well for Daniel Jones.
While New York will likely look to draft a quarterback, signing someone like Trask in free agency to at least compete for the starting job wouldn't be a bad idea.
Just look at what the Vikings have done with Sam Darnold so far.
Trask was battling to be the Buccaneers' starter ahead of last season but got beat out by Baker Mayfield.
At the time, that seemed like an indictment on the Florida product, but Mayfield has played pretty well since winning the job to give the argument that Trask deserves a second shot at being a starter some validity.
2025 NFL Draft: OL Jonah Savaiinaea, Arizona Greg Van Roten is only on a one-year deal and hasn't been playing well this season, while Jermaine Eluemunor is only signed through 2025.
Joe Schoen will likely be looking for some offensive linemen in the draft, and the Arizona product has some guard/tackle versatility that could pique Schoen's interest.
"Savaiinaea's ability to play both tackle spots this season in spurts and his ability to get to spots in pass protection from his primary home at right tackle has been impressive," B/R offensive line scout Brandon Thorn said.
"His contact balance, ability to remain centered and under control throughout reps is a key indicator for success at the next level even if his sheer lack of quickness may regulate him inside at guard as a pro." ( Previous Week's Selections: WR/KR Jamal Agnew, DT Osa Odighizuwa, QB Quinn Ewers ) The Jets' 24-3 dismantling of the New England Patriots was everything the Jets faithful hoped the Aaron Rodgers era would be.
The defense obliterated the Patriots offense and Rodgers was surgical in piecing up the Patriots secondary.
They have a real chance to continue building momentum with the Broncos coming to New York next week.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: WR Russell Gage It's hard to pick out weaknesses after a dominant performance like the one the Jets just put together.
However, the depth in the receiver room is still a little concerning.
Allen Lazard is third on the team in targets and Mike Williams has yet to make a mark.
Finding another veteran who could step up in case of injury might be an important move.
Russell Gage has proved to be a reliable option.
He missed the 2023 season but was with the Ravens until the final cutdown ahead of the season.
2025 Free Agency: OT Ronnie Stanley, Baltimore Ravens The Jets took the calculated risk of adding both Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses to the offensive line during the offseason.
Thus far, the strategy has worked.
The Jets have protected their quarterback much better and they've remained healthy.
However, there's a lot of season left, and both are free agents next season.
If the Jets want to return to the veteran tackle well again, they might want to look into pairing Ronnie Stanley with Olu Fashanu as the starters.
Stanley isn't the player he once was, and the Ravens might not be willing to spend any more money on him than they already have tied up in his void year.
2025 NFL Draft: QB Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss If Rodgers continues to play like he did on Thursday, the Jets won't want to spend first-round capital on a quarterback next year.
They won't be drafting high enough, and Rodgers will want the team to go all-in on winning in his age-41 season.
It would still be wise to target a Day 2 or 3 prospect with traits that give him a high ceiling.
Damian Parson sees some things in Jaxson Dart that could be polished by seeing Rodgers at work.
"Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart is a toolsy prospect with NFL arm talent and plus-level mobility/athleticism.
Dart is a gamer and will put it all on the line to secure a win for his teameven sacrificing his body as a runner.
He is effective in the quick passing game and fits the NFL West Coast offense with a strong running game and play-action passing.
Dart has a playmaking mindset that should endear him to NFL coaches during the scouting process." ( Previous Week's Selections : Edge Haason Reddick, CB Deommodore Lenoir, Edge James Pearce Jr.
) After giving up over 50 points in the first two games combined, the Philadelphia Eagles defense stepped up big time to limit one of the NFL's most explosive offenses to begin this season in the Saints.
Reed Blankenship's diving interception late in the fourth quarter sealed the win, but not to be forgotten was Zack Baun's performance with a team-leading 13 total tackles against his old club.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: WR Corey Davis The Eagles were thin at wide receiver heading into the season, and that issue gets amplified with the report that A.J.
Brown could miss "a couple of weeks" with a hamstring injury.
Picking up a veteran like Davis, who could also fill the third wide receiver role when Brown gets back, wouldn't be a bad idea.
The 29-year-old took a year off from football last season, but he applied for reinstatement this past offseason and had a 500-yard campaign in 2022.
It couldn't hurt to add him to the practice squad at least.
2025 Free Agency: DL Tershawn Wharton, Kansas City Chiefs Milton Williams is an impending free agent, which could leave Philadelphia with a need for a starting interior defensive lineman.
Wharton is far from the biggest name on the open market, but he is someone to keep an eye on throughout the campaign.
According to Pro Football Focus , the 26-year-old racked up seven pressures on 78 pass-rush snaps while earning above-average grades against the run and as a pass-rusher through the first two weeks of the season.
2025 NFL Draft: LB Lander Barton, Utah Devin White and Zack Baun are only on one-year deals while Nakobe Dean has just one season left on his contract after this one.
So Howie Roseman will likely be looking for a linebacker in the draft.
Barton comes from a highly athletic family with two brothers who played in the NFL, an All-American volleyball player sister and parents who were student-athletes at Utah.
That shows up on the backer's tape, as he has the movement skills to be effective in coverage.
Also, while his game isn't quite there yet, the Ute has the potential to grow against the run with his physicality and how he takes on blocks.
( Previous Week's Selections : TE Irv Smith, EDGE Lorenzo Carter, IOL Tate Ratledge ) The Steelers offense scored twice as many touchdowns as it did in Weeks 1 and 2 combined in a 20-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
Granted, they only had to score two touchdowns for that to happen, but it's a great sign of improvement for the Steelers offense.
What was more impressive was the run defense, which limited the Chargers to just 3.1 yards per carry.
That kind of defense will give the offense room to develop as the season wears on.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: WR Darius Slayton, New York Giants (trade) The Steelers offense continues to be a work in progress supported by a defense that will give the team a chance to win nearly every week.
Part of the problem is that Justin Fields is limited as a passer, but the receivers also bear some of the blame.
Outside of George Pickens, there just aren't many weapons who make the opposing secondary sweat.
Darius Slayton is part of another relatively harmless offense, but he at least has deep speed that secondaries have to respect.
He's a functional deep target who could help open the offense up, and the Steelers desperately need to help Pickens and Fields.
2025 Free Agency: CB Nate Hobbs, Las Vegas Raiders Beanie Bishop Jr.
was a cool camp story.
It's an incredible accomplishment for a player to go from undrafted free agent to starter on an NFL roster in one summer.
That being said, he's going to have to show a lot of improvement over the course of the season for the Steelers to not be in the market for a slot corner next season.
That's especially true with Nate Hobbs set to hit the market next season.
He has proved to be a good slot corner for the Raiders, and he rarely leaves the field for them.
Plugging him into the Pittsburgh defense makes them an even better unit in 2025.
2025 NFL Draft: WR Tetairoa McMillan, Arizona The Steelers need to find a quarterback in the 2025 draft, but it's entirely possible that they win too many games to grab one of the top ones in the class.
In that scenario, the best thing they could do is to take a receiver who is going to make Pittsburgh more quarterback-friendly.
Pairing George Pickens with the 6'5", 212-pound Tetairoa McMillan would be too good to pass up.
McMillan has the size and speed to be a downfield menace.
Defenses would be hard-pressed to cover both McMillan and Pickens downfield.
( Previous Week's Selections : IOL Calvin Throckmorton, CB Rasul Douglas, DT Deone Walker ) The San Francisco 49ers didn't really feel the absence of several key offensive skill players in George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffery as they racked up over 425 yards while Jauan Jenning had 11 catches for 175 yards and three touchdowns.
It was seven penalties for 111 yards and allowing Los Angeles to go 7-of-14 on third- and fourth-down conversions that did the defending NFC champions in.
The loss pushes the team two games behind the Seahawks for the early division lead.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: Trade for WR Darius Slayton, New York Giants The 49ers have been bitten by the injury bug recently with key skill players Christian McCaffery and Deebo Samuel going down.
Slayton could help replace the wideout as he ranked fifth on B/R's latest NFL Trade Block Big Board .
"The San Francisco 49ers might want to kick the tires on Slayton now that they're set to be without receiver Deebo Samuel for the immediate future," B/R's Kristopher Knox wrote.
As Knox noted, Slayton could help the 49ers navigate a schedule that includes key division games against the Cardinals and Seahawks in the next three weeks.
2025 Free Agency: CB Byron Murphy Jr., Minnesota Vikings Charvarius Ward is an impending free agent, and even if the organization manages to bring Ward back, cornerback will still be an offseason need.
San Francisco has several players at the position whose contracts expire, including Deommodore Lenoir and Isaac Yiadom.
So bringing in someone like Murphy could be an intriguing option considering he has eight interceptions and 48 passes defended in his career, heading into Week 3 of this season.
Also, the organization should know the former Cardinal well seeing as he spent four years in the division.
2025 NFL Draft: OL Earnest Greene III, Georgia It's no secret that the 49ers could use some young offensive linemen for the long haul as the position group is getting up there in age at several spots.
John Lynch will likely be looking to draft a lineman, and the Georgia product would be a good target since he could play guard or tackle.
"Greene operates at left tackle in more of a guard's frame at 6'4", 320 pounds with enough movement skills to make it work but whose game is predicated mostly off heavy hands and square power at the point of attack," B/R offensive line scout Brandon Thorn said.
"Greene's body control and pad level also leave something to be desired in terms of sustaining blocks with proper leverage, but there are reps of him delivering jolt and knocking defenders back to open lanes as well.
"Greene is still figuring out his technique, footwork and overall use of leverage but has the raw physical traits that we've come to expect from Georgia left tackles that hopefully will lead to more refinement as the year goes on." (Previous Week's Selections: None, LB E.J.
Speed, CB Jabbar Muhammad ) Don't look now but the Seattle Seahawks have a two-game lead in the AFC West through the first three weeks of the season.
They managed to take advantage of the Tua-less Miami team, comfortably winning the game 24-3 and staying undefeated.
Zach Charbonnet led the way with Kenneth Walker III out, rushing 18 times for 91 yards and two touchdowns.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: DT Mike Purcell Johnathan Hankins is supposed to be providing run support for the Seahawks as a gap-filling nose tackle.
However, he posted a 42.5 run-defense grade from Pro Football Focus during the team's first two games.
The front office might want to consider bringing in another option like Purcell if Hankins doesn't turn it around soon.
2025 Free Agency: OT James Hudson III, Cleveland Browns With Seattle projected to have about $6.3 million of cap space available this offseason, per Over The Cap , it will be difficult for the organization to go after big names in free agency.
But Hudson could be a decent acquisition since he has experience playing both left and right tackle, and the team's current swing tackle, Stone Forsythe, is an impending free agent.
Plus, Abraham Lucas finished 2023 on injured reserve and hasn't played yet this fall while recovering from that injury.
The club might want to consider adding reinforcements in the offseason, especially since Lucas is only signed through 2025.
2025 NFL Draft: IOL Tyler Booker, Alabama Laken Tomlinson is only on a one-year deal and will be 33 years old in February.
The Seahawks will likely be looking for some guard help in the draft, and the Alabama product projects as one of the best prospects in the class.
"The 6'5", 325-pound Booker brings jarring power and physicality to the guard spot," B/R offensive line scout Brandon Thorn said.
"His middling recovery skills may cap his ceiling as a pro, but there are clear strengths to his game that should translate quickly and, with added refinement to his technique, could see a similar sort of rise as recent second-round pick O'Cyrus Torrence." ( Previous Week's Selections: OT Tyre Phillips, DT Khyiris Tonga, LB Lander Barton ) Heading into the game, it looked like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Broncos game would end in a blowout like it did, but not how anyone expected it.
The offense couldn't get anything going as Baker Mayfield was sacked seven times and the passing game netted just 130 yards, while the defense gave up nearly five yards carry on the ground.
However, Tampa Bay is still in good shape in the NFC North, tied with New Orleans as the Saints also got upset this weekend.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: OL Tyre Phillips Luke Goedeke missed a second consecutive game with a concussion this week, so it might be smart for the Buccaneers to add some depth to the offensive line in case Goedeke is out any longer.
Plus, while Ben Bredeson and Cody Mauch have been solid so far, they don't have strong track records, and Phillips has experience playing guard as well as tackle.
2025 Free Agency: G Trey Smith, Kansas City Chiefs On a related note, Bredeson is an impending free agent and Tampa Bay has several other offensive linemen who are set to hit the open market this offseason.
That means the club will likely be looking for some help up front this spring, and the Chief will be one of the top interior blockers available.
"Smith has the unenviable task of ensuring the NFL's best quarterback stays upright, and he has earned a PFF overall grade of at least 71.0 in three straight seasons," Pro Football Focus ' Thomas Valentine wrote over the summer.
"While he has allowed more than 30 pressures in each season, only 15 were quarterback hits." Granted, Smith and Mauch have exclusively played right guard so far in the NFL.
However, the latter lined up at both left and right tackle at North Dakota State, so he's capable of switching sides of the center.
Albeit, doing so on the inside will be a different transition than on the edge.
2025 NFL Draft: WR Antwane Wells, Ole Miss With Chris Godwin's contract set to expire, Jason Licht is likely looking into this year's wide receiver class in the draft.
Wells could be a good target for the Bucs seeing as, similar to Godwin, he has plenty of versatility.
"Ole Miss' new wide receiver Antwane Wells Jr.
(Juice) is a talented run-after-the-catch weapon," B/R offensive skill positions scout Damian Parson wrote.
"Wells is well put together with a proportionate and compact frame.
He possesses good play strength to fight through the initial contact and break free for extra yards.
"Wells can align in multiple positions and threaten different levels of the defense.
For teams that need a pass-catcher who can take a five-yard slant and turn it into a 30-yard gain, Wells is the receiver they must keep an eye on." ( Previous Week's Selections: S Ryan Neal, LB Jerome Baker, IOL Tate Ratledge ) The Titans fell to 0-3 in frustrating fashion in a 30-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
The Titans had to watch as castoff Malik Willis led the Packers offense to 30 points.
Meanwhile, Will Levis took eight sacks and threw two interceptions in the loss.
Tennessee wasn't expected to be a contender this season, but Levis' production and decision-making have been disappointing.
Paired with an ineffective run game, the Titans have plenty to work on.
Biggest Weaknesses: Add Now: OT La'el Collins JC Latham is doing well for a rookie left tackle.
The Titans made the right decision throwing him right into the fire, but the tackle group as a whole is incredibly young, and right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere isn't necessarily taking the steps you'd like to see in his third season.
La'el Collins might not be able to beat him out for the job at this point in his career.
However, he is a veteran with experience as both a starting tackle and guard, so signing him would at least provide a backup who could help the young guys along.
2025 Free Agency: QB Sam Darnold, Minnesota Vikings Maybe Will Levis proves he deserves another shot next season.
Maybe he doesn't.
Either way, the Titans should be prepared to at least add a veteran who could compete for the job.
Sam Darnold is on pace to become the latest signal-caller to enjoy a post-hype breakout as a serviceable starter.
If the Vikings want to transition to J.J.
McCarthy next season, then Darnold could be a surprisingly in-demand free agent.
2025 NFL Draft: TE Colston Loveland, Michigan Whether the Titans roll with Will Levis or go another route at quarterback they will have to continue to build an offense that can help out the quarterback.
The offensive line is still a major area of concern, but adding a tight end who can be a two-way weapon is another.
Right now, the Titans just aren't getting much out of the tight end room.
Colston Loveland would immediately be the team's best tight end.
Loveland is a capable blocker who shines as a versatile pass-catching option.
He can line up all over the place and shows good hands with the ability to gain yards after the catch.
( Previous Week's Selections : None, DT Levi Onwuzurike, QB Cameron Ward ) Check back for the Commanders after Monday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals..
