Washington Commanders predicted to land 8-time Pro Bowl pass rusher with 129 career sacks | Sporting News

Its abundantly clear the Washington Commanders believe they can make a Super Bowl run right now.
Last year at this time the Commanders brass was attempting to piece together a roster that could compete with the top teams in the NFL after winning just four games in 2023.
But general manager and head coach Dan Quinn worked side by side and assembled a team with high-upside veterans that fit their culture and that group helped set the tone for the younger rookies the Commanders are building around.
The result? The Washington Commanders shocked the NFL in 2024 and finished the regular season with a (12-5) record and made a run in the playoffs to reach their first NFC Championship game since 1991.
Now its no secret.
The Commanders believe they can make a run at a Super Bowl right now and maximize the next three years before they have to give QB Jayden Daniels a massive contract extension, which will be harder to add top-tier talent around him.
Since taking over the roster, Peters has preached about building through the draft and while the Commanders hit on the majority of their picks last year still have a few coveted picks left in April Washingtons approach in free agency should tell the NFL world what their strategy is.
The Commanders gave up a 2024 fifth round pick to acquire Deebo Samuel from the 49ers.
Samuel is a jack-of-all trades WR that Kliff Kingsbury can utilize in multiple ways to make opposing defensive coordinators have to account for him, Daniels and the running backs as threats in the backfield, while also producing in the passing game.
But the Commanders really proved they are in win now mode when they traded multiple draft picks to acquire left tackle Larmey Tunsil.
This team will only go as far as Daniels takes them and keeping their star QB healthy is critical for the Commanders.
Tunsil is arguably the best pass blocking left tackle in the NFL and gave up just two sacks in 2024.
Its clear Washington believes they found an anchor to protect the QB and set the tone for the offensive line for the next 3-5 years.
There are still plenty of question marks on the defensive side of the ball and if Washington is going to make a run at a Lombardi Trophy in 2025 the Commanders have to limit opposing offenses better than they did in 2024.
The Commanders defense improved as the regular season went on, finishing the year with the No.
13 unit, allowing 326.9 yards per game.
But in the playoffs especially in the 55-33 NFC Championship loss to the Eagles Washingtons defense got gashed.
The Commanders gave up a whopping 421.3 yards per game in their three postseason matchups and need to play better on that side of the ball if they are going to win a NFC crown in 2025.
One of the biggest needs for the Washington Commanders is a dominant pass rusher.
Dante Fowler Jr.
who was playing on a one-year deal in D.C.
in 2024 and has since signed with the Cowboys led Washington last season with 10.5 sacks.
The Commanders have been linked to Trey Hendrickson but likely wont want to give up anymore draft capital to acquire him, so its safe to say they will likely target a rookie pass rusher in the first or second round of the draft.
But TWSN believes Washington will add 8-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Von Miller in 2025 to help get pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
They point out Millers stats are comparable to some of the NFLs top pass rushers when hes healthy, even at age 36.
Heres what TWSN said about Washington possibly acquiring Miller: 17.9% pressure rate, ranks 7th, just behind Parsons/Garrett/Hunter/Hendrickson.
2024 Stats: 84.5 PFF Pass Rush Grade, 249 pass rush snaps, 40 total pressures, 6 sacks 2023 Stats: 52.7 PFF Pass Rush Grade, 207 pass rush snaps, 17 total pressures, 0 sacks Washington has shown by their moves to get Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel that theyre in win-now mode, so heres why they should sign Von Miller to a one-year contract.
This new generations brainrot term of being washed has truly deteriorated the quality of NFL conversations.
Miller will be 36 during the 2025 season, but just because hes not playing at an All Pro level doesnt mean hes not valuable.
He suffered an ACL injury in 2022, and when he immediately returned, he was clearly not the same superstar that he was before.
This can be seen by his 52.7 Pass Rush Grade in 2023, but in 2024 his grade jumped to a great 84.5.
The 2024 season wasnt great for Von, but for a guy solely playing on pass rushing downs, he was still valuable.
On only 40 pass rushing snaps in the 2024 playoffs, he had a pressure rate of 17.5% which is very beneficial to NFL teams..
