Hell offer up insights every morning on Brad Underwoods team and college basketball at large: Illinois' recruiting efforts in the Class of 2025 could be picking up steam given last week's turn of events.

The Illini secured a commitment from four-star guard Keaton Wagler on Wednesday and then followed that up by hosting four-star guard Brandon Lee on an official visit over the weekend.

Lee is a near-consensus four-star recruit, with Rivals, 247Sports and ESPN all considering him at that level.

He ranks as high as No.

73 overall in the Class of 2025 by Rivals and is considered either the No.

1 or No.

2 prospect in the state of New Jersey out of The Patrick School.

Lee was one of the top scorers on the Nike EYBL circuit this summer, ranking third at 22.8 points per game behind only Cameron Boozer and Darius Acuff Jr.

during the regular season.

He averaged 18.8 points at Peach Jam.

In between he played for Puerto Rico (his third time repping them on the international stage) at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup.

That's where Lee's connection to Illinois originates.

His dad, Butch, was the first Puerto Rican to play in the NBA.

The elder Lee played for Marquette and won a national title there in 1977 before becoming a first-round pick of the Atlanta Hawks.

He won an NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1980.

Both Butch Lee and Illinois associate head coach Orlando Antigua are from the Bronx, N.Y., and their careers have overlapped in Puerto Rico as players/coaches.

Illinois offered Brandon Lee in late June and stood as the 6-foot-4 guard's lone high major offer until Seton Hall got on board last week.

He has other offers from George Washington, Duquesne, High Point, Rhode Island, Missouri State and NJIT..
