And on this date in Texas history, Jim Gideon threw a no-hitter during the middle of UT's 1975 championship season.In a 6-0 win at SMU, Gideon was dominant in Dallas.
The right-handed pitcher and upcoming Texas Rangers draft pick did not allow a hit over his nine innings on the mound, and he issued just one walk.
Gideon stuck out 11 batters as Texas improved its record to 21-3.That shutdown of SMU was one of five shutouts that Gideon threw in 1975.
He finished his All-American campaign with a 17-0 record, and he recorded a 1.80 ERA and 109 strikeouts over 124 2/3 innings.
