Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery has no plans to put 39 year old captain Alex Ovechkin into load management with the Stanley Cup Playoffs on deck.

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is now less than 10 goals away from tying and passing Wayne Gretzky for most goals in NHL history.

He's also 39 years of age, and as they say, Father Time comes for everyone eventually.

The good news is that Ovechkin has managed to silence doubters who thought that he was finally cooked last year with only 8 goals in his first 43 games.

After roaring back to life to secure another 30+ goal season, Ovechkin is scoring at his traditional pace this year - even after missing a month of action after breaking his fibula in November following a collision with Utah's Jack McBain.

Washington's spot in the playoffs is already secured, as they are the top team in the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference.

That being said, does Capitals coach Spencer Carbery plan on putting Ovechkin on an NBA-esque 'load management' plan? During a news conference earlier today, Carbery made it clear that there would be no rest for Ovechkin and that he won't be sitting in the stands.

Ovechkin has 55 points (34G, 21A) in the 51 games he's played this year; with 887 career goals, he just needs 7 to tie Gretzky's record of 894.
