Patriots among betting favorites to land top available wide receivers, free agents

By Conor Roche The countdown to the start of NFL free agency has turned from days to hours as Monday could be one of the most important days for the Patriots in recent memory.
New England is armed with nearly $130 million in cap space this offseason, holding the most room in the league.
Rumors about the Patriots plans in their first offseason under Mike Vrabel have trickled out over the last couple of weeks, with the majority of reports suggesting that they plan to be aggressive with the cap room they have.
As the Patriots sit in a strong position to strike in free agency and in the trade market, theyve been speculated to be a potential landing spot for a handful of top players.
Oddsmakers believe thats the case as well, listing the Patriots as the favorite or one of the favorites to land several of the top available players this offseason.
Lets take a look at what the odds say about the Patriots chances to land the top available players this offseason, with all odds coming from DraftKings Sportsbook or BetOnline.
Patriots odds to land him: +350 (third-best odds, via DraftKings Sportsbook) There are several notable wide receivers who are available and could be moved this offseason.
Metcalf is arguably the best of the bunch.
The 27-year-old requested a trade from the Seahawks earlier this week after recording 66 receptions for 992 yards and five touchdowns in 2024.
Hes had at least 900 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns through his first three seasons in the league.
The Patriots have been linked to Metcalf before his trade request was reported, reportedly kicking the tires on a deal during the combine .
There might be some momentum toward a Metcalf-to-New England deal as well, with everybody in the league thinking hell end up with the Patriots, NFL Media draft expert Daniel Jeremiah said Friday .
DK Metcalf is RIDICULOUS #Seahawks (via @NFL ) pic.twitter.com/4wAtSY14y4 With Metcalf entering the final year of his contract, where he wants to go will likely play a role in his next destination if hes traded.
Metcalf previously said that he wouldnt want to play for the Patriots because of the location.
New Englands odds slightly trail the Seahawks and Chargers to be the team he plays for in 2025.
Patriots odds to land him: +605 (third-best odds, via DraftKings Sportsbook) Kupp was granted permission to seek a trade earlier in the offseason, with the Rams informing him of their plans before the Super Bowl.
Unlike the situation with Deebo Samuel, though, there havent been a lot of reported trade candidates for Kupp.
Theres been some speculation that the veteran wideout could be released if hes not traded.
The 31-year-old Kupp is due $20 million in 2025, with $15 million of that being guaranteed by the middle of March.
Hes also dealt with a lot of injuries over the last few years, missing 18 games over the last three seasons and five games in 2024.
Still, he had 67 receptions for 710 yards and six touchdowns over 12 games last season, which would instantly make him the Patriots most productive wide receiver.
New Englands odds to land Kupp trail Denver and Jacksonville, with each team likely in the market for veteran receiver help.
Patriots odds to land him: +1000 (tied for sixth-best odds, via DraftKings Sportsbook) Adams joined the list of talented players to hit the open market this week when the Jets released him, a move that helped them clear nearly $30 million in cap space.
Hes arguably the most decorated wide receiver available this offseason, recording six Pro Bowls and three All-Pros in his career.
He had 85 receptions for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns over 14 games with the Raiders and Jets last season.
While it might be a no-brainer for the Patriots to go after Adams, there are a couple of obstacles that could stand in the way of a possible pursuit.
Adams publicly expressed his unhappiness with his situation with the Raiders when now-Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was the head coach of the team in 2023.
There have been conflicting reports over how Adams feels about McDaniels , but that might not matter.
There is belief around the league that Adams would like to team up with Aaron Rodgers again, MassLives Karen Guregian reported .
Its also been previously reported that Adams has an interest in joining a West Coast team.
Patriots odds to land him: +600 (if Buccaneers dont retain him; fourth-best odds, via BetOnline) The Buccaneers have fewer than 48 hours to agree to a deal with Godwin before he can legally speak with other teams.
If a deal isnt in place, the Patriots seem likely to be in the running to land the standout veteran receiver.

Multiple teams expect Godwin to land a deal worth in the range of $20-to-$22 million per year, according to Giardi .
The 29-year-old Godwin had 50 receptions for 576 yards and five touchdowns in seven games last season before suffering a season-ending ankle injury.
Patriots odds to land him: +300 (best odds, via BetOnline) Diggs owned the Patriots during his time with the Bills, recording 80-plus yards in the majority of their matchups along with seven touchdowns over nine games.
He had a big game against the Patriots with the Texans this past season as well, recording six receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown.
That was one of his few highlights of the year, though.
The 31-year-old Diggs tore his ACL eight games into the season, recording 47 receptions for 496 yards and three touchdowns.
He could be a strong buy-low option, but considering his age, most free-agent rankings have Diggs as a Tier 2 available wide receiver this offseason.
Patriots odds to land him: +400 (second-best odds, via BetOnline) As for Diggss replacement in Buffalo, Cooper could also be a solid buy-low option.
He had a quiet tenure with the Bills, recording just 20 receptions for 297 yards and two touchdowns in eight regular-season games.
It might be fair to consider that Coopers best days are behind him as he turns 31 in June.
But he had 1,250 yards in 2023 with an underwhelming cast of Browns quarterbacks throwing to him.
Patriots odds to land him: +500 (third-best odds, via BetOnline) The Patriots can pursue Hopkins again this offseason after failing to land him in 2023.
In fact, theyve got the head coach who won his services that offseason.
Whether signing Hopkins would be a good idea or not is another debate, though.
Hopkins, who turns 33 in June, showed some flashes of his peak play in his first month with the Chiefs after being traded to Kansas City in October, recording four touchdowns in his first seven games.
But he only had 29 receiving yards in their three playoff games.
Patriots odds to land him: +600 (fourth-best odds, via BetOnline) Last offseason, the Bears acquired Allen hoping he would elevate the play of rookie Caleb Williams.
While Williams was a bit underwhelming, Allen was still productive, considering the circumstances.
He had 70 receptions for 744 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games.
Allen will turn 33 in April, so hes certainly on the downswing of his career.
If the Patriots are looking to add some veteran receiver help for Maye, though, Allen could be a top option beyond the first few obvious candidates.
Patriots odds to land him: +900 (tied for fourth-best odds, via DraftKings Sports) Moving beyond wide receivers, Bosa became one of the top defenders available this offseason when the Chargers released him in a move that cleared $25 million in cap space.
He was named a Pro Bowler for the fifth time in his career this past season as he recorded five sacks, 22 total tackles, and two forced fumbles.
His 13.9 pass rush win rate was 23rd among defensive ends who played at least 50 percent of their snaps, per Pro Football Focus.
Bosa would fill a big need for a Patriots team thats lacked production among their edge rushers over the last two years.
Theres also a connection with Vrabel, who coached Bosa in college at Ohio State.
But a pair of favorites are ahead of the Patriots in the odds to land him, including the 49ers, where his brother Nick Bosa plays.
Patriots odds to land him: +900 (sixth-best odds, via BetOnline) While Bosa might be the most notable edge rusher in free agency, Hendrickson is certainly the top edge rusher available.
The Bengals reportedly gave their star pass rusher clearance to speak with other teams about a trade earlier this week after he recorded a league-leading 17.5 sacks in 2024.

The Commanders have the best odds (+150) to land Hendrickson as they and the Falcons are among the teams to watch to land the star pass rusher, Fox Sports Jordan Schultz reported .
Patriots odds to land him: +550 (third-best odds, via BetOnline) Sweat seems primed to land one of the largest contracts in free agency this offseason.
As he turns 28 later in March, Sweat had a monster year with the Eagles, posting 10.5 sacks (regular season and postseason) to help them win the Super Bowl.
His 15.7 pass rush win rate was 13th among edge rushers who played at least 50 percent of their teams snaps, per PFF.
Even though Sweat would instantly become the Patriots top edge rushers, it doesnt appear that theyre in on him.
Sweat isnt expected to draw interest from the Patriots in free agency, the Boston Herald s Doug Kyed and Andrew Callahan previously reported .
Fifth sack by the Eagles! : #SBLIX on FOX : Tubi + NFL app pic.twitter.com/p5JPnx3ujR Patriots odds to land him: +300 (best odds, via BetOnline) Looking beyond Bosa, Hendrickson, and Sweat, Young is probably on the next tier of available edge rushers this offseason.
His 2024 season was stronger than what his 5.5-sack total might suggest, though.
He had 66 pressures (tied for seventh) and a 13.7 pass rush win rate (25th among edge rushers who played at least 50 percent of their teams snaps), per PFF.
With the Patriots reportedly looking to splurge at defensive tackle and offensive tackle, maybe Young could be an option if they arent looking to spend a tremendous amount for an edge rusher.
Patriots odds to land him: +400 (best odds, via BetOnline) Landry has an obvious connection to the Patriots, playing under Vrabel for six seasons with the Titans.
So, its no surprise that New England is an early betting favorite to land him after Tennessee released him on Friday.
There might be some concerns with the Landry, though.
In fact, he was the inverse of Young last season, posting nine sacks but doing so with a measly pass rush win rate of 4.8 percent.
That was the worst mark among all edge rushers who played at least 50 percent of their teams defensive snaps last season.
Patriots odds to land him: +600 (fifth-best odds, via BetOnline) The Patriots arent in desperate need of a running back this offseason.
But if they want one, there are at least a couple of solid options available.
Jones had the best year of the pending free-agent running backs, recording 1,138 rushing yards on 4.5 yards per carry to go with 408 receiving yards and five total touchdowns with the Vikings.
Other running back-needy teams like the Cowboys, Broncos, and Steelers are listed higher in the odds to land Jones than the Patriots.
Patriots odds to land him: +500 (fourth-best odds, via BetOnline) Harris, meanwhile, seems likely to land the biggest contract among the pending free-agent running backs.
Hes posted at least 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first four seasons, putting him in line to receive a nice deal after he turns 27 on Sunday.
