Caitlin Clark's Iowa disappearance explained with show of support amid boyfriend struggles

Caitlin Clark slipped away from the Iowa Hawkeyes' game with the Wisconsin Badgers to support her boyfriend's younger brother's last college basketball game at the Butler Bulldogs.
The 23-year-old Indiana Fever star - a hero in Iowa - is enjoying a busy offseason and chose March 5 to watch two basketball games back-to-back.
However, Clark 's plans were thrown a curveball, with the Hawkeyes ' game with the Badgers and the Bulldogs' clash with the Xavier Musketeers scheduled within an hour of each other.
Clark started in Iowa, where she forged a legendary NCAA career, breaking several records and leading the Hawkeyes to two national championship games before heading to the WNBA first overall in April 2024.
The guard watched on as Iowa dominated 81-54 before slipping away to support her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, the assistant coach of Butler, and his younger brother, Patrick, who wore the No.
22 for the college.
Clark had typically been a good luck charm for the Bulldogs.
However, Butler was beaten 91-78, condemning the team to a three-game losing streak.
Patrick, who spent years as a Hawkeye alongside Connor and Caitlin, played his last college game and scored 11 points for the Bulldogs.
It will also end the McCaffery brothers' working relationship for now, with Patrick's on-court departure confirmed.
"He's been my big brother my whole life," Patrick McCaffery said.
"He would boss me around, tell me what to do, yell at me." "I always try and play the right way," Patrick McCaffery added.
"Don't do too much.
If you're open, shoot it.
If you're not, pass it.
We want to win every game I've ever played in my life.
The objective was to win.
Whatever it was a board game, a card game, the objective is to win." Patrick wasn't given preferential treatment either.
Head coach Thad Motta revealed that Connor could be harsh on his younger brother to the point where you wouldn't believe they are related.
"There's times in practice where you would never guess those two are brothers," Butler head coach Matta said.
"As hard as Connor is on Patrick, I think that's good for us.
It's good for our program together." However, Jack McCaffrey is next up for Clark's boyfriend to coach.
The 6-foot-8 power forward has committed to Butler in the class of 2025 and will work with his older brother, Connor.
Jack is slated as a four-star recruit.
"It was the coaching staff for sure," he told ZAGSBLOG.
"Coach [Maurice] Joesph and coach [Thad] Matta did a great job recruiting me and I thought it was the best overall fit for the way that I want to play.
I think I'm a very versatile forward who can play inside and out and shoot the ball very well.".
