The Washington Commanders released two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jonathan Allen on Friday, ending his eight-year run with the team that selected him in the first round of the 2017 draft.
Washingtons decision to part with Allen appeared inevitable for months, after it drafted Johnny Newton in the second round of the 2024 draft and faced a financial hurdle with Allens contract.
He had a year remaining on his contract, but it carried a $22 million salary cap charge, the third highest on the team..
