The Vancouver Canucks have traded defenseman Carson Soucy to the New York Rangers for a third-round pick, a league source told The Athletic on Thursday.

The 30-year-old shutdown defender performed well for the Canucks and Seattle Kraken in the postseason the past couple of years and can play on both sides of the ice.

He was sixth on The Athletic s most recent NHL trade board .

Advertisement The Canucks recently acquired defenseman Marcus Pettersson from the Pittsburgh Penguins and signed him to a six-year extension, making Soucy available on the trade market.

Vancouver is currently tied with the Calgary Flames for the Western Conferences second wild-card spot.
