After debunking the trade rumors sending Erik Karlsson to the Dallas Stars, a renowned insider suggested that the team is likely to go after Seth Jones instead.

Erik Karlsson performed well in the 4 Nations Face-Off amid an uneven, inconsistent journey with the Pittsburgh Penguins .

In three games for Team Sweden, the defenseman scored one goal and two assists.

While he has tallied 40 points in 60 games with the Penguins this season, he has shown massive defensive gaps-too big for his $11.5M yearly salary.

The Penguins' general manager and president of hockey operations, Kyle Dubas, appears willing to trade him.

With that in mind, Elliotte Friedman suggested a few days ago that the Dallas Stars could be interested in teaming up with the Pens for a deal involving Karlsson.

In his own words: 'It's a big cap hit.

Remember, his cash really goes down this summer, especially after his bonus is paid.

Now, maybe whoever goes and gets him waits until after that.' Later, David Pagnotta revealed that he doesn't see a fit between Pittsburgh and Dallas for Karlsson but suggested that Seth Jones could be an interesting player to target for the Stars, as well as the Colorado Avalanche and the Florida Panthers.

Here's what he said: But Seth Jones is certainly a possibility for Dallas if they can make things work.

Chicago is willing to retain, but they have other teams in the mix as well-Florida has interest in him, we've heard about Colorado as well.' Recently, Seth Jones has fired up the trade rumors with a massive declaration about his team, saying they weren't better than they were in the first game of the season: It's been almost four years at the bottom of the league, so for me, at least, it's not just about this year.' The Dallas Stars, Chicago Blackhawks, and Pittsburgh Penguins will all be teams to follow closely ahead of the trade deadline.

Stay tuned.
