The NFL Scouting Combine will begin on Thursday with defensive lineman and linebackers set to workout.

Penn State edge rusher, Abdul Carter, was originally set to workout during the event, however, he later opted out because of a shoulder injury .

Now, things may have gotten much worse for the Nittany Lion.

After tests were conducted today on Carter, it was determined that he has a stress reaction in his right foot, per ESPN's Adam Schefter .

That puts the projected No.

1 overall pick in a precarious situation, where a possibility of surgery might be the best option.

There are mixed opinions on whether he needs surgery, and we will figure that out in the near future, Carters agent, Drew Rosenhaus said Wednesday night in Indianapolis, site of the NFLs annual scouting combine.

Schefter details two options for Carter that Rosenhaus gave him, with one requiring surgery and another bypassing it altogether for now.

"Option 1 for Abdul Carter would be to have the pre-emptive surgery, have a screw inserted in his right foot, and be expected back in eight weeks," Rosenhaus said, per Schefter.

"Option 2 for Carter would be to bypass the surgery, conduct his pro day and prove to NFL teams that he doesnt need it." This could have major effects on the 2025 NFL Draft, which is set to take place on April 24 from Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Carter had been cast to take the No.

1 pick away from both the top quarterbacks in Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders, seeing as how teams don't appear to be high on either quarterback in this year's draft.

Perhaps there will be more revealed on the situation and what Carter plans on doing involving the injury once the combine officially begins on Thursday..
