NORTHOME Anthony Johnson reached 1,000 points a little faster than he expected.

After spending freshman year playing on the Northome/Kelliher boys basketball team, Johnson made a goal to hit the four-digit mark during his prep playing career.

In Tuesday nights 80-29 win over Laporte, the Mustangs junior achieved that goal.

At first I didnt think I wouldve, but it came faster than I thought, Johnson said in a release.

I knew working hard was gonna get me to it.

Northome/Kelliher wrapped up the regular season with its dominant win over the Wildcats.

Now, Johnsons goals are team-oriented: making a run in the Section 8A Tournament.

Round one of the tournament kicks off on March 3.

My goal for basketball (is) helping my team play at the Ralph in (Thief River Falls) Johnson said.

Our boys team hasnt played there in a long time.

In terms of his future beyond prep basketball, Johnson has his eyes set on continuing his career at the collegiate level.

Im hoping to play basketball at a JUCO or a D-II college and work my way to a D-I school, Johnson said.

I know I got to put in the work and keep putting shots up to get there.

That intent to continue playing the sport he loves, considering Johnson has spent much of his life around it.

I first picked up basketball when I was a little kid, Johnson said.

Played a lot of one-on-one against my brother in the driveway.

Played on my first team in the third grade.

...

Im so passionate about basketball because when I play it, it gets everything off my mind and keeps me going..
