The Chicago Cubs added Justin Turner last week, beefing up the team's infield depth and bench hitting.

However, a young outfielder in Alexander Canario was the sacrificial designation for assignment as a result.

Four days after Canario was DFA'd, the Cubs have moved him to the New York Mets for cash considerations.

The Cubs have traded OF Alexander Canario to the Mets for cash considerations, sources tell ESPN.

Canario, 24, was DFAd by the Cubs last week.

There are differing opinions on how Canario's tenure with the Cubs has come to an end.

Some fans say it was due, as the young outfielder failed to make any lasting impression at the major-league level, while others feel like the youngster never got a fair shake with the Cubs.

No matter what side of the aisle fans fall on, its safe to say that Canario never regained the promise he had before a broken ankle and dislocated shoulder altered his trajectory entering the 2023 season.

With Canario's departure, Caleb Kilian is the final remaining piece from the trade that sent Kris Bryant to the San Francisco Giants in 2021.

That said, Kilian's struggles have made the trade look like a wash for the Cubs in the long run.

Baseball fans are familiar with Bryant's career following his departure from Chicago, but the Cubs failing to get much out of the return feels like a loss as well.

Acquiring cash gives the Cubs options down the road for other moves and trades.

That said, any return for a player the Cubs were clearly ready to part with is a small victory.

The Cubs continue their Spring Training action after a hot 5-0 start to Cactus League play.
