SPORTS DIGEST: IUN guard, Crown Point graduate Jessica Carrothers wins CCAC's top two awards

Carrothers picks up pair of awards: IU Northwest guard Jessica Carrothers was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday.
Carrothers, a Crown Point graduate, led the nation in scoring with 31.1 points per game.
Her 3.6 steals a game were best in the conference and third in the country.
Along with her awards, Carrothers was named to the All-CCAC First Team.
Fellow RedHawk Tiara Jackson was an All-CCAC Second Team selection thanks to averages of 17.0 points per game, 12.5 rebounds per game and 1.5 blocks per game.
MEN'S BASKETBALL Schwieger picks up honors: Valparaiso sophomore Cooper Schwieger set a high bar by winning the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year last year.
He built on those lofty standards this season, earning a spot on the MVC Most-Improved Team on Tuesday.
Schwieger's 15.5 points per game this season are more than a two-point improvement from his freshman averages.
He also saw improvement on the defensive end of the floor, going from blocking 0.9 shots a game as a freshman to 1.7 a game as a sophomore.
Schwieger's rebounding also saw a jump, up more than two rebounds a game from a season ago.
On Tuesday, he was awarded the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week award by the US Basketball Writers Association as well, the first Beacons player to earn the honor since 2016.
Schwieger averaged 27.0 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game across two games last week..
