Steelers may be unable to help themselves as far as drafting a position they don't need after historic NFL Combine performance

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a lot of team needs.
Safety, even if some are questioning Minkah Fitzpatrick's future is not one of them.
But after a historic showing from a promising defender, Pittsburgh may be unable to help themselves with their first-round selection...
Nick Emmanwori wows at 2025 NFL Combine A post shared by NFL (@nfl) It's one thing to be physical, it's another to be fast.
But if you're big, physical and fast, it doesn't matter if you're a safety, a guard, or hell even a punter, teams are going to be interested in drafting you, and high.
Emmanwori was already generating a ton of first-round buzz, and that was before he blew everyone away with a perfect 10 and the best safety score in relative athletic score testing , and earning a 99.4% athletic composite rating from A to Z Sports Draft analyst and college football managing editor Travis May.
Nick Emmanwori is arguably the best combine athlete in NFL history...

The best safety in the class.
pic.twitter.com/suFv4GWodx Right or wrong, Pittsburgh continues to believe that games are won on the defensive side of the ball.
With Minkah Fitzpatrick still in his prime, thinking of the ball-hawking and hitting that would go on within the Steelers secondary is enticing.
But the Steelers once took a promising and athletically freakish safety via Terrell Edmunds, who ultimately would have his fifth-year option declined and not play for the Steelers past his rookie deal.
So for the Steelers, as enticing and promising as Emmanwori would look in their secondary, the Steelers have to weigh their needs.
Going safety when the team needs defensive linemen and WR help would be a massive mistake and one I don't think Pittsburgh would actually consider.
But we have seen crazier reaches before, from the Pittsburgh Steelers nonetheless and at positions far more valuable and with picks far more franchise-altering than that of drafting a safety.
"We know we weren't good enough down the stretch.
Fortunately, we have the resources from a cap standpoint to address and maybe in free agency, said Omar Khan when asked about the defensive line during Tuesday's media session at the NFL Combine.
"And, there's maybe some trade candidates out there.
And this draft is a really good draft for the defensive line." This article first appeared on A to Z Sports and was syndicated with permission..
