Dillon Gabriel height concerns addressed by quarterback ahead of NFL Draft

Dillon Gabriel is confident that his skill and experience will compensate for his lack of height ahead of the NFL Draft .

Gabriel has just completed a college career that saw him become one of the finalists for the Heisman Trophy, narrowly losing to dual-threat star Travis Hunter.

However, the quarterback still managed to set personal bests in yards during his single season in Oregon , throwing for 3,857 yards and 30 touchdowns with only six interceptions.

At 5-foot-11, the 24-year-old will be one of the shortest quarterbacks in the NFL , assuming he becomes a starter at the top level.

Despite questions about his height, the star insists that his other positive qualities outweigh any disadvantages.

"I've had a lot of experience," Gabriel said at the Scouting Combine, per NBC Sports.

"I've done it at every level.

Nothing's gonna change at the NFL level even though it will be the best league and the best players.

As anything, you adapt.

I'm eager to learn, so when I get in that locker room I'm gonna get to it." While his experience is crucial for advancing to the next level of football, Gabriel acknowledges that his 5-foot-11 frame may not suit every team.

Nevertheless, the star quarterback believes there is more to him than meets the eye and encourages teams to thoroughly scout him.

"I'm not for everyone," he declared.

"I challenge everyone just to watch the tape, you see the evolution 2019 until now, the growth I've made physically and mentally.

Even my throwing motion, you see how polished and how detailed it has been.

I'm confident in my tape, whether it's good or bad, I think you can learn from that and most importantly how I've responded." Gabriel confidently stated that teams seeking a winner need look no further than him.

Moreover, he revealed that the continued focus on his height by franchises and team executives doesn't wear him down.

In a discussion with Chris Simms and Mike Florio, the 24-year-old expressed his indifference to his stature being a frequent topic of conversation as he advances toward the NFL.

"Actually not," replied Gabriel when quizzed on whether he was "sick" of height discussions.

"I think the great part is people that I match up with don't give a rip about it, and that's the great thing.

They care about how I make decisions, my decision making, my accuracy, and my ability to be efficient.

So the great thing is people I match with don't really give a rip about the size." Ultimately, the athlete acknowledged he's been taking inspiration from fellow quarterbacks of similar stature who have made a significant impact in the NFL.

"A lot of guys now are still doing it," Gabriel continued.

"[Russell Wilson], Brock [Purdy], Tua [Tagovailoa], Bryce [Young], even Kyler [Murray] and Baker [Mayfield], and they're playing at a high level.

So I don't think anything will be different for me.

"But obviously they earned it, and they maximized that time on the field.

At the end of the day, you've got to go on the field and produce.

But I've produced my whole life, so that's nothing changing for me.".
