RCTC men bounced in quarterfinals of Region XIII tournament

COON RAPIDS The Rochester Community and Technical College mens basketball team was bumped in the quarterfinals of the Region XIII tournament, falling 78-73 to Central Lakes College-Brainerd at Anoka-Ramsey Community College.

It was the third time the teams had met, Central Lake winning all three.

ADVERTISEMENT The loss ended RCTCs season, the Yellowjackets finishing 17-11 overall.

Central Lakes is 20-9, including 11-1 against Minnesota College Athletic Conference teams.

RCTC finished 6-6 against conference foes.

Central Lakes put its foot down early as it grabbed a decisive 43-16 halftime lead.

RCTC rallied nicely after that, outscoring Central Lakes 57-35 after intermission, but it wasnt quite enough.

Jamison Lien led the Yellowjackets with 17 points.

He was 7-for-12 from the field and also grabbed seven rebounds.

Sam Jennings had 16 points and eight rebounds and Laden Nerison had 12 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists.

Leroy Barnes also chipped in 13 points.

RCTC was once again hurt by turnovers, as it lost the ball 19 times.

Central Lakes had five fewer than that.

The Yellowjackets did win the rebound battle, 42-38.

Jaiquavious Ackey paced Central Lakes with 19 points.

Josh Rogers added 17.

RCTC struggled from 3-point range, finishing just 5-for-21 from there.
