What USMNT star Christian Pulisic really thinks of his LeBron James nickname

Christian Pulisic has one more opened up about the nickname that has followed him for years.
The USMNT star was speaking during the launch of Milan's fourth kit, which was worn in a 1-0 victory over Hellas Verona on Saturday.
One of the more humorous moments of his interview with Sports Illustrated came when he reflected on being dubbed Soccer's LeBron James in a 2021 episode of Pawn Stars.
The comparison to LeBron is, of course, a very funny meme and nothing more than that, he said.
Although it really spread in the world - when we were in Saudi Arabia, a little kid saw me and immediately yelled something about James! But I dont mind it.
"If people seriously think about this and want to debate that I am not even close to LeBron - yes, that's true, he is a giant, and I play for Milan.
The reference stemmed from an episode in which an appraiser attempted to value a signed Chelsea jersey, casually remarking, This guys, like, the phenom guy, right? Hes like the LeBron James of soccer? The phrase quickly gained traction online, turning into a running joke among fans.
LeBron was one of my favorite athletes growing up, too," Pulisic has previously explained.
"The people that get offended by it, saying, Don't even compare those two! It's a joke.
It's a meme.
People need to lighten up.
"I don't think I'm the LeBron James of soccer.
That's why it's funny, because the guy that said it I'm sure isnt that knowledgeable about soccer." Despite the lighthearted comparison, the two athletes have long admired each other.
Pulisic wore a Cleveland Cavaliers jersey to the 2018 NBA Finals, and James later returned the gesture by sharing a photo of himself wearing a USMNT shirt with Pulisics name on the back.
Beyond the memes, his impact at Milan is undeniable.
After recording 12 goals and nine assists this season, the club is reportedly closing in on a contract extension through 2028 or 2029..
