The New York Yankees sent shockwaves through the baseball world Friday when they announced the amendment of one of the most polarizing team policies in all of sports.

After owner Hal Steinbrenner announced the Yankees would take a softer stance on their strict, long-standing policy regarding facial hair, the decision was met mostly with positive reviews, with most fans welcoming the organization into the 21st century.

However, one prominent Yankees fan ESPN's Stephen A.

Smith took exception to the fact that the organization felt the need to hold a press conference following the news.

Despite initially appearing on a SportsCenter segment to discuss the NBA, Smith couldn't help but vent about the press conference the Yankees held before starting his scheduled appearance.

A 20-minute press conference over facial hair? I mean, what a disgrace, Smith exclaimed .

"I couldnt believe it.

Im a Yankee fan, you know Im a die-hard Yankee fan.

Im trying to keep my cool.

You understand what Im saying? But I mean, damn.

You aint won a World Series title since 2009.

You aint been to one since then until last yearyou got romped by the Dodgers.

Though the Yankees didn't do away with the facial hair policy entirely, the decision to amend it was met with favorable marks.

With that said, the fanbase will soon forget about the policy change if the championship drought continues.
