The Kansas City Chiefs lost the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles.

They now await Travis Kelce's retirement decision as they get ready for free agency and the draft.

Kelce will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer whenever he retires, but he is taking time to decide whether that will be now or later.

He spoke on the decision-making process of his podcast, New Heights .

"I'm gonna take some time to figure it out," said Kelce.

"I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back, that it's gonna be something that it's a wholehearted decision...It's just whether or not I'm motivated or it's the best decision for me as a man, as a human, as a person, to take on all that responsibility." While Kelce contemplates his retirement, ESPN's Aaron Schatz predicted the Chiefs would cut Kelce, ending his tenure in Kansas City on their terms.

"This would be a very unpopular move, but Kelce's contract is set up as an easy way for the Chiefs to gain cap space for 2025," wrote Schatz.

"According to Roster Management System, cutting Kelce would cost the Chiefs only $2.5 million in dead money while saving them over $17 million on the salary cap.

That's important with the Chiefs currently having negative effective cap space (i.e.

the cap space that they would have after signing at least 51 players and a projected rookie class)." According to Spotrac , if the Chiefs release Kelce between now and March 14 they would save $17.25 million in the 2025 cap.

The same goes for a release after June 1.

However, it is highly unlikely the Chiefs would do this to Kelce.

He is an icon in the community and a legendary player.

He is a 10-time Pro Bowler and a four-time All-Pro.

He is also the all-time leader in playoff receptions.
