The San Antonio Spurs have been dealt a hammer blow to their season following the latest news on Victor Wembanyama, but Lou Williams believes it provides an opportunity for DeAaron Fox.
NBA Insider Shams Charania confirmed that Wembanyama has a form of a blood clot in the right shoulder and that he is out for the season.
Despite being without Wemby for the game against the Phoenix Suns the Spurs were able to get the job done in a convincing 1201-09 win.
DeAaron Fox would step up during the game in what was only his sixth for his new side and Williams believes he can put his stamp on the side without Wemby.
Williams highlights Fox opportunity While the Spurs are struggling in 12th place in the Western Conference they are looking strong for the future.
A side that possesses the likes of Wemby, Fox and Stephon Castle is likely to cause problems in the league shortly and they will likely continue to draw big names to San Antonio to play alongside the Frenchman who is already being tipped as a future GOAT .
For now, Fox will have to take the Spurs team on his back and his match-winning 26-9-7 was enough to secure a solid win.
Fox previously stated how the Spurs were his top landing spot after leaving the Kings as he wanted to team up with Wemby.
Lou Williams told Fan Duels Run It Back that he was impressed with Foxs display against the Suns and now wants the star to kick on: Absolutely, and this is what you want to see from a former All-Star guard that you bring in, right? you want to see him in all-star form.
You want to see him lead like, lets see what hes made of.
you know, you brought him here to pair with Wemby.
Hes been playing decent basketball, been playing really good basketball, and now, with Wemby going out this is going to be an opportunity to show at the point guard position how elite of a two-way player that DeAaron Fox can be.
When you have so many young guys now this is a time to put your stamp on his team, this is an opportunity for you to put your personality on it, lead these young guys and put yourself in a position, best possible position that you can.
Foxs impressive start in San Antonio There was very little doubt that the Spurs were getting a star when they landed Fox from the Kings.
Since the 2019 season, the 27-year-old has not averaged less than 21.1 points and is already flying in a Spurs jersey.
It didnt take him long to set a franchise record , which came on his debut when he became the first Spur to have a 20-point 10-assist game on debut.
In Foxs six games so far hes averaged 22.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 7.7 assists.
There is no doubt that this stat line might change slightly now without Wemby.
It would be expected for Fox to now be a higher-point scorer with his assists potentially dropping.
Fox will still have the talents of Castle to help him who he recently labelled legit .
The rookie certainly caught the attention of fans during the All-Stat tournament and is leading the way to be the Rookie of the Year.
