Things arent looking too great for the Dallas Mavericks front office, and for good reason.
Trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers is one thing, but doing so after making the NBA Finals less than a year ago is not a good look.
There will be plenty of questions surrounding the Mavericks future from here on out, while the Lakers future is in good hands with Doncic alone.
For this, CBS Sports ranked the Mavericks among the worst front offices in the NBA, though they were not considered the worst.
The Mavericks were ranked No.
27, with only the Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, and Chicago Bulls ranked lower than them.
The Mavericks were put in the same tier as those three teams and captioned, I cant defend what youre doing.
The reason is pretty self-explanatory.
The magnitude of trading Doncic when he was seen as the face of Dallas future is something that general manager Nico Harrison will likely never live down, no matter what happens in Dallas for the next few years with Anthony Davis.
The Lakers havent exactly dominated since acquiring Doncic, having gone 2-2 and winning their game against the Trail Blazers last night without him.
However, many believe that LA is poised to dominate once Doncic gets his legs under him.
The Lakers havent won anything yet, but the Mavericks still look bad for making this deal.
If and when Doncic helps them win a title, it will make them look infinitely worse.
Doncic may never win a championship with the Lakers, which may not matter in the long run anyway.
For the next several years, Dallas will be put under the microscope for trading an all-time player like Doncic when he hasnt entered his prime yet.
