The Indiana Hoosiers enjoyed a fantastic college football season in 2024, setting a school record with 11 wins and even earning a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Yes, Indiana ultimately fell to Notre Dame in the first round, but it was still a rather significant sign of progress for a school that is certainly more known for its basketball program than anything it has ever done on the gridiron.

So, does that mean we can expect the Hoosiers to take yet another step forward in 2025? Kyle Kensing of Deadspin doesn't think so, labeling Indiana one of the three most overrated college football programs in the country heading into next season.

"Cal transfer Fernando Mendoza is coming off a 3,004-yard season passing with 16 touchdowns against four interceptions," Kensing wrote .

"He should be a nice fit in Indianas prolific offense.

However, the physical gap that plagued IU in its losses could leave the Hoosiers as Big Ten also-rans against a much tougher league schedule, which sees early dates against Illinois, Iowa, and Oregon after a Charmin-soft non-conference slate (Indiana State, Kennesaw State, and Old Dominion)." Kensing added that Indiana went just 1-2 over its final three games this past year, which included a blowout loss to the eventual national champion Ohio State Buckeyes.

In such a rugged conference, it may be hard to take the Hoosiers seriously, as we are not accustomed to seeing them compete with the Ohio States, Michigans and Penn States of the world.

And to be honest, they really didn't beat anyone of note in 2024, outside of a narrow 20-15 win over a stripped down Wolverines squad.

We'll see if Indiana can prove everyone wrong next fall..
