The newest addition to the New York Mets, star outfielder Juan Soto, is doing his best to win over his new teammates.

Who says some casual gift-giving isn't allowed to be part of that? On Friday, Soto gifted his new Mets teammate, third baseman Brett Baty, a brand new car just in time for New York's spring training, which is getting underway in Port Saint Lucie.

Let's run through why Soto gifted his new teammate a car in exchange for a particular jersey number.

Why did Juan Soto want jersey No.

22? The reason? Soto's contract with the Mets states that he will only wear the jersey No.

22 during his 15-year contract with New York.

No.

22 is the only number Soto has worn during his seven-year MLB career.

But there was a slight problem that was the number Baty wore before Soto's arrival.

According to MLB.com , Baty switched to No.

7 not long after Soto signed with the Mets.

The two new teammates exchanged text messages about the number swap: Baty switched to No.

7 shortly after Soto signed, in part because he grew up a fan of Jose Reyes and Joe Mauer.

Baty said recently that Soto texted him and the two got everything worked out.

What car did Juan Soto gift Brett Baty? The car appears to be a fully loaded black Chevy Tahoe .

Baty has been with the Mets since 2019, who drafted him in the first round of the 2019 draft.

He was called up from the minors in 2022.
