College roundup: Ridgewater rallies to down St. Cloud Tech

WILLMAR DeAndre Holloway, Tyrese Mayo and Miguel Maloney fueled the Ridgewater mens basketball team to a comeback victory against St.

Cloud Technical and Community College on Saturday.

Holloway scored 19 of his 21 points, Mayo had 10 of his 22 points and Maloney sank 10 of his 15 points in the second half as the Warriors erased a 48-34 halftime deficit to beat SCTCC 88-85 in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference South Division game.

Ridgewater, which improved its winning streak to three, is 5-3 in the MCAC-South and 13-7 overall.

The Cyclones are 1-7 and 10-10.

Holloway added 12 rebounds to his 21 points to secure his 14th double-double in 20 games.

The 6-foot-7 forward from Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, has recorded a double-double in each of his last five contests.

His three blocks marked the 11th game he has reached that mark.

Mayo, a freshman guard from Winter Haven, Florida, has scored in double figures in all but one game this season.

He is averaging 18.9 points per game on 51.7% shooting from the field.

Maloney has been key off the bench for the Warriors.

The freshman guard from Browerville-Eagle Valley is averaging 9.1 points and is shooting 41.3% from beyond the arc.

Goanar Tap racked up 18 first-half points before Ridgewater held him to 11 points in the second half.

The freshman forward from St.

Cloud Tech High School finished with a game-high 29 points.

Ridgewater plays at Rochester Community and Technical College at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday.

Mens Ridgewater 88, SCTCC 85 SCTCC 62, Ridgewater 55 Jadyn Youngs 19 points, 11 rebounds and five assists and Ella Duevels 18 points helped St.

Cloud Technical and Community College get past Ridgewater in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference South Division game at Willmar.

SCTCC, which got nine points from Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa grad Brooklyn Fischer, is 2-4 in the MCAC-South and 9-10 overall.

The Warriors are 1-5 and 2-17 overall.

Ridgewater had three scorers in double figures, led by Kaydence Bertram.

The freshman guard/forward from Melrose scored 19 points.

Nevaeh Rahm, a freshman center from Fairmont, racked up 12 points.

Lily Dean, a sophomore guard from Hector, nearly had a triple-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.

Ridgewater plays at Rochester Community and Technical College at 5:30 p.m.

Wrestling Last Shot Invite Ridgewaters Tegan Sherk won the 133-pound bracket at the Last Shot Invite hosted by Concordia-Moorhead.

A freshman from St.

Francis, Sherk went 3-0 in the tournament.

He won a 7-1 decision over St.

Johns Connor Krueger in the championship match.

Tegans brother, Kyler, went 3-2 to finish third in the 141 bracket.

Tucker Hugg, a sophomore from St.

Cloud, went 3-2 for a fourth-place finish at 285.

Concordia-Moorhead had three wrestlers with area ties compete.

Brody Duke, a New London-Spicer grad and freshman with the Cobbers, won the 184 bracket.

He earned a 14-1 major decision against Northlands Qilee Jackson.

Mason Swanson, a Willmar grad and Concordia junior, placed second at 285.

He went 3-1 and lost to St.

Johns Aidan Wayne in the finals by 9-3 decision.

Nick Ankeny, a Minnewaska grad and Cobbers sophomore, was third at 165.
