Tribune Notebook: 2 Cards hockey players honored by CLC
Two players who have helped the Willmar girls hockey team get back to a section championship game have been honored.
Lily Jorgenson and Erin Eilers have been named Central Lakes Conference performers of the week.
Jorgenson is a junior forward for the Cardinals who had two goals and an assist in section wins over Mankato West and Minnesota River.
Willmar beat Mankato West 4-0 and then upset second-seeded Minnesota River 2-0.
Willmar is the third seed.
For the season, Jorgenson has eight goals and five assists in 27 games.
Included are two game-winning goals.
Eilers is a senior goalie.
She recorded the shutouts in the two playoff wins.
For the season, she has a 1.76 goals-against average with eight shutouts in 27 games.
She has a .935 save percentage.
The Cardinals played for the Section 2A championship Friday night against the top-seeded River Lakes Stars in Alexandria.
Willmar, the third seed, is attempting to get back to state for the second straight year.
The state girls hockey tournament begins Wednesday at the Xcel Energy Center in St.
Paul.

Berge, listed at 5-foot-11, is averaging 11.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game for the Dragons, where she has started in all 24 of the team's games going into Friday night.
MSU-Moorhead is 10-8 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and 12-12 overall.
Berge is an accounting major.
* There are two area athletes on the Southwest Minnesota State University women's basketball team, Kenzie Jones and Maddie thorfinnson.
Like MSU-Moorhead, the Mustangs also play in the NSIC, where SMSU is 17-2 in the conference and 23-2 overall.
Jones, a 5-10 senior forward from Willmar, is averaging 6.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg and 1.1 apg.
She has started one game and is shooting 37.7% from the field and 71.9% from the free-throw line.
She's an elementary education major.
Thorfinnson is a 6-0 junior forward from Minnewaska.
She has started in all 25 games and is averaging 3.3 ppg and 3.2 rpg.
She is a business/marketing major..
