William & Mary names former Bruton, Hokies star Bryan Randall its quarterbacks coach

COLLEGE FOOTBALL William & Mary coach Mike London has announced the hiring of former Bruton High and Virginia Tech star Bryan Randall as the Tribes quarterbacks coach.

Randall joins the Tribe after an 11-year pro career at quarterback, which included stints with the Atlanta Falcons, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Pittsburgh Steelers, though he didnt appear in an NFL regular-season game.

Highlighting his pro accomplishments were being selected as the Indoor Football League MVP in 2010 and the Lone Star Football League MVP in 2013.

Randall, after starring in football as a dual-threat quarterback and in basketball for Bruton, played both sports for the Hokies.

He was a three-year starter for Virginia Tech, where he was the 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and led the Hokies to the programs first ACC championship and a berth in the 2005 Sugar Bowl.

He finished his collegiate career with 6,508 passing yards, 1,526 rushing yards and 59 total touchdowns en route to being enshrined into the Virginia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame.

COLLEGE WOMENS BASKETBALL Apprentice School named former pro player Ieshia Small its head coach after a national search.

She has been the Builders assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the past two years, as well as an assistant athletic director.

The rest of Apprentices season was canceled Dec.

Small was the Big Ten Sixth Woman of the Year as a Maryland player before graduating in 2018, and she played professionally in China, Hungary, Ukraine and Poland, averaging 14 points per game.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL Defending champion Virginia Wesleyan was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference favorite in a coaches poll.

Randolph-Macon was second to the Marlins among the leagues 12 teams.

ODAC teams seasons will open this weekend.

The two-phase conference tournament will include eight teams and will start May 3 in Salem.

VWU was ranked eighth in the Division III preseason coaches poll, while R-MC was 17th.

Due to inclement weather, Norfolk State changed its schedule this weekend.

The Spartans will open the season at home in a doubleheader against Saint Peters at 2 p.m.

Friday.

The game between Saint Peters and Mercyhurst on Saturday on NSUs field was changed to a 10 a.m.

COLLEGE BASEBALL Due to inclement weather in the forecast, Norfolk State shifted the schedule of its weekend homestand against Mount St.

The teams will open the season with a noon doubleheader, then will conclude the series at noon Saturday.

No games will take place Sunday.

COLLEGE TRACK AND FIELD Hampton freshman Joseph Ernest was named the Coastal Athletic Association Mens Field Performer of the Week.

Ernest grabbed top honors in the triple jump at the Penn Classic on Saturday.

With a leap of 14.85 meters (48 feet, 8.75 inches), he ranks third in the CAA.

Norfolk State freshman jumper Jaymes Saunders earned the first MEAC Field Athlete of the Week accolade of his career.

At the East Coast Invitational last week in Virginia Beach, he was second in the triple jump (46-5.75) and fifth in the high jump (6-4.75), as well as eighth in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.79 seconds.

COLLEGE MENS LACROSSE Christopher Newports Brett Kelley and Kevin Miller were named to the U.S.
