Ohio State not only lost several key players after their National Championship win over Notre Dame, but they also lost both their coordinators as well.

While defensive coordinator Jim Knowles took his talents to Penn State to assume the same role, offensive coordinator Chip Kelly headed back to the NFL to take the same position with the Las Vegas Raiders as both coaches became the highest-paid coordinators at their respective levels.

The Buckeyes already replaced their offensive coordinator by promoting well-known wide receivers coach Brian Hartline to the role , they just made a splash earlier Wednesday by bringing in former Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia for their defensive coordinator role.

While Patricia has been at the NFL level since 2004, he makes a return to college to lead the reigning National Champions defense.

While he wasnt named the defensive coordinator yet, Patricia joined Front Office Sports on Radio Row during Super Bowl week and shared some comments that indicate why he decided to head to college for his next role.

Its intriguing, Patricia told FOS .

I think the way thats it going to be run, look theres a salary cap, theres NIL.

You can get players now.

Now it is free agency every day, I do understand that.

I think you can build your rosters really quick...I love it, I love the direction its going.

Additionally, further information that has been released indicates that Patricia spent significant time with his former colleague Bill Belichick last year learning the college game while both stepped away from football coaching.

While Belichick recently hired his son Steve for North Carolinas defensive coordinator position, Patricia will have a tall task working with an Ohio State defense that lost a plethora of their top contributors to the NFL Draft.

Patricia will debut with the Buckeyes on Saturday, August 30th, when they face up against Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns in Columbus..
