NBA Insider reveals concerning update on Anthony Davis’ injury in Mavericks debut | Sporting News

Anthony Davis suffered an injury in his debut game against the Dallas Mavericks, which is unfortunate considering his dominance prior to exiting.
The former Los Angeles Lakers superstar has an online reputation for missing excessive time in recent years.
NBA Insider Marc Stein reported an optimistic outlook on whether Davis will need surgery.
A firm treatment course and projected recovery timetable have still yet to be announced by the Mavericks ...
but there has been tangible optimism in Dallas this week that Anthony Davis (adductor strain) can avoid the surgical route, Stein reported .
However, he then reported that the Mavericks dont know when Davis will return.
One source briefed on Anthony Davis' recovery tells (Stein) that no specific recovery timetable has yet been established beyond the determination that the Mavericks and Davis will be cautious in pinpointing a return date.
Where the Mavericks luck out is that All-Star weekend is right around the corner, which should give Davis some extra rest time.
Still, with over half the season gone, the Mavericks will need all hands on deck to make a playoff run.
Losing Davis for an extended period will only hurt them.
To make matters worse, Dereck Lively II is nursing an injury, and Daniel Gafford just suffered a knee sprain .
Its fair to say that Dallas frontcourt has taken a hit over these past few weeks.
Another issue is that the Mavericks cant afford to have this be a nagging issue for the rest of the season and potentially beyond.
Even if Davis absence is inconvenient, they also cant risk it getting worse from here on out.
The Mavericks have impressively persevered through their injuries throughout the 2025 season.
It appears theyll have to fight through adversity for even longer.
