Tim Bontemps doesnt want to see the Orlando Magic jump into the trade sweepstakes for Sacramento Kings guard DeAaron Fox Theres a new ultimate target in the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline.

After almost two months of the protracted Jimmy Butler trade saga , it was reported that the Sacramento Kings are listening to trade offers for DeAaron Fox .

Fox, 27, is a one-time All-Star with the Kings, leading them to break a 16-year Playoff drought, the longest drought in NBA history, in 2023.

After failing to make the Playoffs last season and being in the fight for the 10th seed this season, Fox has decided he doesnt want to continue his career with the Kings.

While DeAaron Fox is expected to be angling for a move to the San Antonio Spurs , theres no guarantee he could get that while under contract with the Kings.

The Sacramento front office will prioritize getting the best offer possible, which might include other franchises.

The Spurs might be frontrunners in this race but teams like the Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic shouldnt be ruled out.

Although, it seems Foxs fit on the Magic will irk a respected voice in the NBA.

DeAaron Fox might complicate the Magics offense ESPNs Tim Bontemps appeared on Brian Windhorsts Hoop Collective podcast alongside Tim MacMahon.

Bontemps made it clear that he doesnt like the Magic being linked to Fox due to the point guards poor shooting.

He declared that Fox is not a necessity for a franchise that already has middling shooters like Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

I dont think hed be a good fit in Orlando.

The last thing they need is another guy whos not a great shooter.

Hes a really good offensive player.

But I mean, theyve already got Paolo [Banchero] and Franz [Wagner], who handled the ball a lot, who are mid-30 percent three-point shooters for the most part.

They need a guy who can really shoot it.

This is a good point, as the Magic have a 104.1 offensive rating this season.

This would rank as the worst in the NBA.

Fox is averaging 25.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.2 assists, but hes shooting 32.1% from three.

He generates his offense with one of the best downhill games in the NBA.

However, spotting up as a shooter isnt an advantage for him.

Paolo Banchero is shooting 34.6% from three this season while Franz Wagner is shooting 31.7%.

If theyre going to the core duo for the Magic, they must add more shooters around them.

A scoring point guard who specializes as a shooter could be a good decision.

But there is little way to counter an elite offense with multiple star-level players.

DeAaron Fox would blend into the Magics high-octane defensive setup while being a go-to crunch-time option.

He might not be an elite shooter but hes a versatile offensive player who can find ways to be effective.

Race for DeAaron Fox The Spurs seem like an exceedingly obvious destination in the eyes of most.

Not only do they have the assets to potentially acquire DeAaron Fox in a trade, they also project to have the cap space to outright sign him in 2026 free agency.

Fox would be the perfect point guard for the Spurs title ambitions with Victor Wembanyama .

Shams Charania has confirmed that Foxs preferred destination is San Antonio.

However, he also revealed the Kings have received over a dozen offers for DeAaron Fox already.

The Kings have received dozens of phone calls and trade offers in the last 30 hours.

Here is the most important thing to know.

The San Antonio Spurs are DeAaron Foxs targetted and preferred destination.

They are among the interested teams in Fox.

He has a massive market right now.

The Kings control DeAaron Foxs future until he hits the market in 2026.

They know the point guard will be leaving, so theyre trying to maximize his departure by gaining trade assets.

Hes a 27-year-old All-NBA selection in his prime, which explains the robust interest around him.

These interested teams arent clear.

Some have reported that teams like the Houston Rockets are not expected to join the sweepstakes .

The Magic could be involved but they wouldnt be incentivized to sell the farm for an upgrade like Fox this early into their competitive cores development.

The Miami Heat could be interested as well, currently aiming to be a cap space team in 2026.

They could also find a way to facilitate a Fox acquisition while trading Jimmy Butler.

The Spurs arent the only destination for DeAaron Fox, although they might be the most likely at the moment.
