As the NBA trade deadline approaches on Thursday, the Nuggets are in an interesting spot.

While rumors earlier in the season swirled about a big deal that could include Michael Porter Jr, that talk has cooled off with the team's recent play.

Denver, which currently sits fourth in the Western Conference, could still be looking at a smaller deal.

Especially after the injuries to Peyton Watson and Russell Westbrook.

The Nuggets have made big trades in the past.

While some of these have not been on trade deadline day, they were all in-season and reshaped the franchise at the time.

Date: March 25, 2021 Nuggets received: Aaron Gordon Magic received: Gary Harris, RJ Hampton, 2025 first-round pick Why it's important: It took a couple seasons due to some injuries to Jamal Murray and Porter, but the Gordon trade set the path to the 2023 NBA title.

He fits perfectly with Nikola Jokic and has become an important leader on the team.

He is comfortable in his role and recently signed an extension to stay in Denver.

1, 1980 Nuggets received: Alex English, 1980 first-round pick Pacers received: George McGinnis Why it's important: This would be the top spot if not for Gordon helping the Nuggets win their own NBA title.

It is not normal to trade for the player that becomes one of your best players ever but that is what Denver did.

English is the franchise's leading scorer and led the Nuggets to nine straight playoff appearances during his 10 seasons.

Guard Chauncey Billups returned to Colorado when the Nuggets traded Allen Iverson for him.

The Nuggets decided to swap Iverson for Denver basketball legend Billups.

The trade created one of the best runs in Nuggets history as Denver made the Western Conference finals before losing to the Lakers.

Trading small forward Carmelo Anthony landed the Nuggets a massive haul, including the pick used to draft Jamal Murray.

Anthony wanted out of town and only wanted to go to the Knicks.

Denver made it happen and got a huge package back.

The trade made the Nuggets competitive for years to come but the 2016 pick swap may have been the biggest piece.

Denver used that pick to select Murray.

Nuggets guard Allen Iverson (3) slashes to the basket to score against Los Angeles Lakers forward Lamar Odom (7) during the fourth quarter of Game 1 of an NBA basketball opening-round playoff series at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on April 20, 2008.

Date: December 19, 2006 Nuggets received: Allen Iverson, Ivan McFarlin 76ers received: Andre Miller, Joe Smith, and two 2007 first-round picks Why it's important: This was a huge move when it happened.

The Nuggets brought AI to Denver to pair with Anthony.

There was some success but Denver only won one playoff game during their time together.

Iverson was traded for Billups after two seasons..
