Tribune Notebook: Four Cards earn conference performer honors

It was a good week for a lot of Willmar Cardinal athletes.

Four of them have earned Central Lakes Conference Performer of the Week honors.

The four are Maddison Molacek, Evan Wallestad, Carlee Brown and Conlan Carlson.

Joining those four is River Lakes girls hockey player Kaydence Roeske, who is a senior at Paynesville.

Here's a look at the honorees: Molacek, a 5-foot-10 junior forward on the girls basketball team, is receiving the award for the second straight week.

She averaged 12.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals in two victories last week.

Wallestad is a senior on the boys swim teams.

Wallestad won two events and saw on a winning relay event in a meet last week.

Brown is a junior on the gymnastics team.

She scored life-time bests with an 8.6 on the uneven parallel bars and a 9.125 on the floor exercise in a dual meet.

Carlson, a senior wrestler, is coming off a second-place finish at the Rochester Christmas Tournament and a first-place finish in the Rumble on the Red.

Roeske is a goaltender who had a .979 save percentage and one shutout in three games last week.

Other CLC top performers, by school: * At Alexandria, boys diver Kyler Kavanagah set a pool record with a score of 295.50; * At Brainerd, sophomore boys hockey player Griffin Bartholomaus and girls bsaketball player Macy Castle; * At Sartell/Cathedral, boys Nordic skier Andrew Berndt and girls Nordic skier Cece Jamison; and * At Rocori, freshman wrestler Mason Moscho won three matches in his 127-pound weight class to earn his 60th career victory.

Basketball finalists Dawson-Boyd's Brayson Boike has made an impressive list, the Minnesota Mr.

Basketball watch list.

Boike is a 6-foot-8 senior forward for the Blackjacks, who are ranked second in the state Class A poll.

He's a Southwest Minnesota State University basketball recruit.

The Minnesota Mr.

Basketball Award goes to the state's outstanding senior basketball player.

The winner will be announced after the state tournament in March.
