Texas A&M had a more promising start to the season than its finish, but Aggies head football coach Mike Elko was able to will his program to eight wins during his debut campaign in College Station.

From the sound of it, Texas A&M is betting on internal improvement leading the program into the future.

AggieYells Mark Passwaters revealed TAMUs plan to keep their coaching staff intact during his latest mailbag.

At this point, I dont think any changes are going to be made.

This is not what I had anticipated, but I guess Elko decided hes good with what he has if hes more hands-on, Passwaters wrote in response to a readers question.

The early signing period and the transfer portal has changed a lot of things, including when coaches get hired or fired.

Is it possible teams still wait until February? Yeah, but Ill be that only about 10% of the players for the 2025 class are still unsigned.

That housecleaning now happens months earlier.

Perhaps its not so much Texas A&Ms plan, though.

Passwaters went on to reveal a potential reason why theres been no movement for Elkos staff this season: theres no one in the general manager position in any official capacity.

They dont have one GM, per se.

They have Derek Miller, who is the general manager of recruiting, and Allen Gaudet, the director of player personnel.

Both seem to be capable guys, Passwaters wrote.

The Aggies lost their final three games, including a four-overtime thriller to a then-4-6 Auburn and a Las Vegas Bowl loss to USC with a bare-bones roster .

Add the rivalry loss to Texas in between, and its fair to say 2024 was a heartbreaking one for the 12th Man.

Things are looking up, though.

They returned Marcel Reed at QB and were one of the December transfer portal cycles most aggressive participants.

Texas A&M isnt a title favorite, but theyre respected as a team with upward mobility, even if Elko has some work to do on his roster and on his support staff..
