Even though conventional wisdom suggests the Tennessee Titans will target a quarterback with the No.

1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the organization is keeping all of its options open at this point.

Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker told reporters on Wednesday the team wouldn't "pass on a generational talent" at the top of the draft, even if it means bypassing a quarterback to get one.

Appearing on WEEI in Boston, ESPN's Adam Schefter said Brinker's comments indicated to him the Titans are "not locked in" on a quarterback with the first pick.

There are two things to keep in mind with what anyone associated with a team picking at the top of the draft says, especially three months out from the event.

The first is that every team that has ever had the No.

1 pick says at some point they are open to all options because they want negotiating leverage in trade talks.

Prior to the 2021 draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars took calls when everyone knew they were going to select Trevor Lawrence.

At least with the Chicago Bears last year, they made it clear it would require a " historic haul " of compensation to move off the No.

1 pick with Caleb Williams available.

The second thing to keep in mind is that no team has done a full evaluation on any player in the 2025 draft yet.

They have in-depth reports from scouts who have seen these prospects during the college season, but evaluations will change when the scouting combine and in-person workouts and interviews get underway.

If there was a year that a quarterback-needy team might decide to bypass the position early in the draft because they don't like the options available, it could be this year.

B/R's NFL scouting department has Cam Ward ranked as the only quarterback in the top-10 overall prospects in the 2025 class, and he's No.

6 overall.

Shedeur Sanders is the second-ranked quarterback at No.

16 overall.

The five players ahead of him all play impact positions, including cornerback (Travis Hunter, No.

1 overall), defensive line (Mason Graham), wide receiver (Tetairoa McMillan) and safety (Malaki Starks).

Schefter cited Hunter and Penn State's Abdul Carter as the two players he's keeping an eye on for the Titans if they don't go after a quarterback.

When the time comes to actually make the pick, though, teams will almost always go after the quarterback if there's even a decent option available because of how much of a difference it makes if you hit on the position.

It's the reason eight of the last 10 No.

1 picks in the draft have been quarterbacks.

The Titans front office is in a good position to do what they want because Mike Borgonzi just got hired as general manager on Wednesday.

Head coach Brian Callahan may not have as much wiggle room after going 3-14 in his first season.

Whatever the decision ends up being, the Titans just need someone who can be a foundation piece for the next great version of this team.

They don't really have any of those right now.

Jeffery Simmons is still a good player, but not the game-wrecker he was in 2021 and 2022..
