Giants listed as 'likely' landing spot for $12 million ex-Cy Young | Sporting News

The San Francisco Giants have had a productive offseason to date.
In early December, they signed star shortstop Willy Adames to a seven-year, $182 million contract.
The following month, they inked former Cy Young and MVP Justin Verlander to a one-year, $15 million deal.
They've been quiet ever since the Verlander deal, but that doesn't mean that they're done shopping just yet.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently listed San Francisco as a possible landing spot for three-time Cy Young winner and former Detroit Tigers teammate of Verlander, Max Scherzer.
"Teaming up with Justin Verlander again in San Francisco could also be fun.
The Giants have a solid five-man rotation in place, but with many injury risks/durability concerns in the bunch.
Bringing on Scherzer as a sixth starter (not that he would be the No.
6 in their rotation) is probably a good idea," Miller wrote.
The Giants won 80 games in 2024 and missed the postseason, finishing below .500 for the second consecutive year.
However, adding Scherzer would give them a solid top three in their rotation along with Verlander and Logan Webb.
The key for Scherzer in 2025 will be to stay healthy.
The veteran right-hander missed considerable time in 2024 with the Texas Rangers and was limited to just nine starts, going 2-4.
However, he did post a 3.95 ERA, so he was at the very least effective when he pitched.
If he can remain healthy, San Francisco could have a very strong rotation in 2025, which could give them a chance at competing for at least a Wild Card spot.
We'll see if San Francisco makes Scherzer an offer.
