Tennessee Titans decision-maker drops clear hint over No.1 NFL Draft pick

Tennessee Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker has stated that they will 'not pass up on a generational talent' in the NFL Draft this year, with many believing that they could be sticking with Will Levis at quarterback.

Brinker is one of the main decision-makers with the Titans , and had been a part of hiring new general manager Mike Borgonzi , who accepted the Titans job this week.

Borgonzi walked away from the Kansas City Chiefs and the chance of winning a third straight Super Bowl, where he had been for 15 years while helping bring Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes to the team, most recently being their assistant general manager.

And while Borgonzi, not Brinker, will be making the final decision on who the Titans will be drafting with the first overall selection, it appears that they might already have a favorite within the class.

The Titans are runaway favorites to be drafting Heisman Trophy finalist Cam Ward at quarterback, but they might appear to be looking at another player.

Brinker had told reporters: "We won't pass on a generational talent with the first pick in the NFL draft.

We won't do that." Ward has been the favorite to be drafted first overall long before the Titans had landed the top pick, with them being in the spot making many believe that it would be foregone conclusion.

However, Brinker's words might suggest that the Titans could instead look at selecting the best player available in the class rather than drafting for need.

There would be few analysts that would argue that Ward is a generational talent or one of the best players in the draft, with Travis Hunter and Ashton Jeanty being seen as the true 'blue-chip' talents, while others would argue that Mason Graham and Abdul Carter also are deserving of being in that discussion.

While putting in an impressive year with Miami in 2024, it should be noted that Ward had played against poor opposition in his final year of college, and being one year removed from being seen as a seventh-round quarterback after a rollercoaster time with Washington State.

Levis had been a high second-round in 2023, and despite being benched last season, could be given a new chance under Borgonzi, while needing to earn the trust of head coach Brian Callahan after his tough second year in the league.
