On Campus Notebook: Pirtle has strong showing in first meet at Virginia Tech

Stuart Pirtle (Stonewall Jackson 24) is already making an impact at Virginia Tech as a freshman.
Pirtle started his indoor track season off strong in his first meet of the year.
Pirtle participated in the Virginia Tech Invite on Jan, 17 and 18 in Blacksburg.
Pirtle finished 10th in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.34.
Pirtle finished seventh in the mens high jump with a leap of 6-02.75.
He finished 10th in the long jump with a jump of 22-06.25.
Virginia Tech is back in action this weekend with part of the team participating in the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg and another part of the team headed to Lubbock, Texas for Texas Techs Red Raider Invitational.
SOLID START: Macy Smith (Strasburg 24) is finding her way this season as a freshman on St.
Bonaventures womens basketball team.
Smith has played in 15 games and is averaging 13.0 minutes per game.
She is averaging 3.2 points and has 10 assists and four steals for the Bonnies.
Smith is shooting 37.7% (20-for-53) from the field and 71.4% (5-for-7) from the foul line.
Smith had a season-high nine points in an 82-72 loss to Colgate on Nov.
23.
Smith went 4-for-7 from the field in 19 minutes of action.
On Jan.
8, Smith had seven points on 3-for-7 shooting in a 68-66 win over Saint Louis in 19 minutes of play.
She also had two steals and two rebounds in the contest.
The Bonnies are 5-13, including 1-6 in the Atlantic 10.
The Bonnies play at Fordham on Saturday.
FAMILY SUCCESS: Brothers Anakin Burks (Strasburg 22) and Heath Burks (Strasburg 24) are enjoying success wrestling for Shenandoah University.
Anakin Burks, a sophomore, is 14-11 wrestling at 125 pounds for the Hornets.
Heath Burks, a freshman, is 4-9 wrestling at 133 pounds.
Anakin Burks has six pins, two major decisions and one technical fall.
Heath Burks has one major decision.
In the Will Abele Invitational hosted by Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, on Jan.
18, Anakin Burks went 2-2 at 133 pounds with two pins.
Anakin Burks beat Alfred States Christian Caputo by pin in 1:28, and Ursinus Nicolas Brockson by pin in 1:41.
The hornets finished ninth as a team in their final invitational of the season.
The Hornets host Ferrum College on Saturday..
