The Detroit Pistons are slowly but surely showing the results of their long rebuild with Cade Cunningham as the teams engine.

Their win over an exciting Houston Rockets team helps them inch closer to automatic playoff qualification while highlighting Cade Cunninghams development as a player.

The first overall pick of the 2021 Draft is putting together an incredible season for the Motor City, and a first All-Star nod shouldnt be out of reach for the Oklahoma State product.

The 23-year-old guard must be delighted that the teams struggles are seemingly behind them as they put together a respectable run this season.

However, his most recent victory over the Rockets holds deeper meaning for him given his long history with one of the teams stars.

Cunningham talks about rivalry with Jalen Green after Detroit Pistons win over Rockets Detroits incredible first quarter was more than enough to put away an impressive 28-14 Houston Rockets when they met on January 20 .

Cunningham was stellar for Detroit, posting a near triple-double of 32 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in 36 minutes of game time.

Cunningham was asked about his years-long involvement with Rockets star Jalen Green during an NBA on TNT appearance, and he let everyone know that he loves playing against the Houston star.

Per Fadeaway Worlds Ishaan Bhattacharya : I think its just exactly that we want to compete against each other.

Theyve always put us up against each other since high school, as far as who is better.

I think we both enjoy being able to face each other and see whos the best.

I dont think we need any of that (handshakes).

We both know what it is.

It was inevitable that people would be comparing the two guards.

Not only do they play the same position, but they also played each other often in high school due to the proximity of their states.

The fact that they were drafted high in their respective classes only added to the narrative for those already familiar with their story.

The Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets have faced each other four times with the two stars in their rosters.

Cunningham has performed slightly better of the two, averaging 21.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 7.5 assists.

Meanwhile, Green is slightly worse with 19.8 PPG, 4.8 RPG, and 2.5 APG.

Their latest meeting was a resounding win for Cade as Green only put up 19 points, four rebounds, four dimes, and a steal in the game.

It will be interesting to see how the rivalry between the two young stars will play out.

A potential Finals matchup between their teams would be an interesting sight for basketball fans.
